Job Description:
Title: Maintenance Technician/MechanicPurpose: The responsibilities of this classification include performing a wide variety of skilled mechanical repair and maintenance work on gasoline, electric, hybrid and diesel-powered buses and other motorized and auxiliary equipment. Work involves maintenance, repair of all engines, transmission, suspension, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and related components, and assemblies. Work requires incumbents to learn and transfer new and expanded mechanical and electronic knowledge and skills as diagnostic systems and mechanical/electronic components are modified and updated. Work also requires compliance with all applicable, federally mandated safety-sensitive requirements. Work is performed under the general supervision of Vehicle Maintenance Supervisors. This position also reports to the Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor. Wage: $24.61 to $27.84/Hour (Additional Pay Incentives Available With 'H-Series ASE' Certifications)Sign-On Bonus: $2,000Benefits:

Maintenance Technician/Mechanic qualifications/requirements: or Education and/or Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Any combination of experience/education/training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the work or successful completion of appropriate practical test for internal maintenance employees.
  • Possess a valid TN Class A Driver's License with a P Endorsement (or successfully pass the applicable CDL Permit Tests)
  • Verified completion of a recognized automotive and diesel repair apprenticeship program or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Possess valid Refrigeration License for all refrigerants and refrigerant systems used on the fleet.
  • Must pass drug and alcohol testing provisions for safety sensitive positions as required by the U.S. Department of Transportation, 49 CFR Parts 40 and 655. The person selected for this position may be required to be tested prior to being awarded the job.
  • Willingness and availability to work varying shifts that have been bid on weekdays, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Additional minimum qualifications may be established for individual positions based on business needs and are specified in position announcements as appropriate.
  • Additional licenses, certifications, and other requirements determined to be necessary to meet the business needs of the employing unit may be required. Company will provide training as needed.
  • Preferred Attributes:
    • Two Year Degree in Diesel Technology, Automotive Technology or similar OR Three years demonstrated experience in heavy duty diesel/automotive repair.
WeGo Maintenance Technician/Mechanic:
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • A or B Journey-level knowledge and skill in the principles, practices, techniques, tools and equipment of the automotive and diesel repair trade.
  • Knowledge of current methods, materials, lubricants, tools and equipment used in servicing, diagnosis, preventive maintenance, overhaul and repair of gasoline, electric, hybrid and diesel-powered buses, other motorized and auxiliary equipment.
  • Knowledge of mechanical principles of gasoline, diesel and electric powered engines; fluid, pneumatic and hydraulic systems; power train, suspension, and chassis components and assemblies; and electrical, ignition, braking, heating and air conditioning systems.
  • Knowledge of current diagnostic techniques and equipment used in fleet repair operations.
  • Knowledge of industrial safety rules, shop safety rules, and applicable regulations and procedures that apply to a vehicle repair facility.
  • Basic computer skills required to enter and extract information from automated vehicle maintenance systems and related software applications.
  • Skill in the operation of electronic diagnostic equipment as well as power and hand tools used in mechanical maintenance and equipment repair.
  • Skill in the operation of overhead cranes, hydraulic lifts, hoists, jacks, drill presses, lathes and related equipment.
  • Skill in the operation of wreckers and associated auxiliary equipment and winches.
  • Skill in basic mathematics.
  • Skill in working with a variety of individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
Maintenance Technician/Mechanic Duties:
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical defects in gasoline, electric, hybrid and diesel-powered buses, trucks, cars and other heavy motorized mechanical equipment; operate and maintain electronic diagnostic and related equipment.
  • Diagnose, dismantle and repair all types of gasoline and diesel internal combustion engines, automatic transmissions, differentials, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems.
  • Install, maintain and repair electrical and mechanical units and accessories of electrically powered and hybrid coaches using electrical diagrams and schematics.
  • Adjust brakes, repair pumps, starters, injectors, lights, steering gears, generators and air conditioning systems.
  • Operate overhead cranes, hydraulic lifts, hoists, jacks, drill presses, as appropriately certified.
  • Perform field repair work and emergency road repairs; drive wrecker truck in order to tow in disabled coaches.
  • Maintain records of orders, completed repairs, time worked, and materials used; enter and extract data in automated vehicle maintenance system.
  • Perform diagnostic, troubleshooting, and repair of electronic and mechanical system equipment.
Other job duties:
  • Assist other employees in section work.
  • Refer unusual situations to supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical demands:
  • Medium to Heavy Duty Work Designation-Occasionally lifts up to 50 lb. independently. May occasionally with a lift, hoist, or assistance of coworker lift up to and over 100 lb. May occasionally guide items up to and over 100 lb. while they are moved by lift or hoist. Frequent walking and standing.
  • Occasional to frequent sitting, working at bench-top workstation, intermittent with all other activities.
  • Occasional walking, typically no more than 100 yards at one time, and mostly within work area, intermittent with standing, sitting, and all other activities.
  • Occasional to frequent standing. May stand at bench-top workstation and to perform certain job duties, intermittent with sitting, walking, and all other activities.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of parts weighing 50 lbs.
  • Frequently lifting and carrying of hand and power tools and various equipment and components, up to 10 lbs.
  • Rare lifting (assisted), carrying, and/or moving of parts greater than 90 lbs.
  • Occasional pushing and pulling of parts up to 50 lbs., rarely greater than 90 lbs.
  • Frequent use of hands for grasping.
  • Frequent use of hands for fine manipulation.
  • Occasional exposure to vibration from hand operated power tools.
  • Occasional to frequent use of hands for pushing and pulling.
  • Rare use of feet for movement of foot controls.
  • Occasional bending, kneeling, squatting and twisting.
  • Occasionally perform work in awkward positions while removing farebox from bus or light rail vehicle.
  • Occasional to frequent reaching at waist, bench-top, and/or chest level, overhead reaching.
  • Occasional crawling.
  • Occasional to frequent climbing of steps.
  • Frequency of all of the above may vary, as individual has a degree of ability to modify work activity to correspond with any disability-imposed limitations.
  • Position works in an environment where there is exposure to dust, noise, and temperature. May be moderately exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include, dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals.
