SUMMARY: This position is located in the Operations Division of the Oklahoma City-County Health Department and is under the supervision of the Facilities Supervisor. The incumbent is primarily responsible for maintaining various equipment and providing repair and minor construction in and around the physical plant, as well as performing grounds maintenance tasks. On occasion, the incumbent may serve as a lead worker to other employees in the Facilities Department performing building and grounds maintenance tasks. PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This is a summary of the duties and responsibilities commonly found within this classification. It is not meant to be all-inclusive, thus, other related activities and tasks may be assigned. This position functions at the program support level (Tier 1) as defined by the Council on Linkages Core Competencies for Public health Professionals with a primary focus on the following Domains: Communication Skills Community Partnership Skills Health Equity Skills ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Utilizing various power and hand tools to construct, install, repair, clean or tend various parts of the physical plant. 2. Operating power equipment to perform grounds maintenance tasks. 3. Loading supplies and equipment on vehicles. 4. Painting walls and other objects. 5. Assembling furniture and equipment. 6. Keeping records. 7. Driving an agency vehicle to various off-site locations to perform job duties as needed. 8. Completes required training in support of duties and responsibilities of this position. 9. At the direction of the Chief Executive Officer and Public Health Officer or designee, the incumbent will be assigned a variety of specific job duties and responsibilities as a member of the OCCHD Emergency Preparedness and Response Program Team (i.e., Public Health Preparedness and Response Program). Also, as a member of the Emergency Preparedness and Response Program Team, the incumbent is required to complete all necessary emergency responder training and may be designated as a member of the first-responder team. 10. In accordance with our designation of a PHAB Accredited health department and explicit commitment to a culture of continuous quality improvement, employees will receive Quality Improvement (QI) training deemed necessary by their supervisor. QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: -High school diploma or GED required -Valid Oklahoma Driver License required LEVEL 1 - One year general maintenance and repair experience required, pay grade 9, $1,585 semi-monthly LEVEL 2 - Two years of general maintenance and repair experience required, pay grade 10, $1,709 semi-monthly LEVEL 3 - Three years of general maintenance and repair experience required, pay grade 11, $1,848 semi-monthly SKILLS AND ABILITIES: -Knowledge of and ability to use appropriate equipment and tools -Knowledge of and ability to follow safe working procedures and practices -Ability and willingness to perform installation and maintenance tasks -Ability and willingness to use a personal computer, including required software programs -Ability and willingness to maintain confidentiality -Ability and willingness to communicate with others both orally and in writing using tact and diplomacy -Ability and willingness to develop and maintain effective working relationships -Ability and willingness to follow established policies and procedures -Ability and willingness to assume responsibility for work product WORKING CONDITIONS: -Primarily indoors in climate controlled building, but may be required to work outdoors occasionally in inclement weather -No smoking is allowed in agency buildings and vehicles or on agency grounds -No use of cell phones or the use of electronic wireless communications devices used to write, send or read a text-based communication while driving a motor vehicle on agency business -May be subject to working in cramped or dusty spaces when performing installation tasks -May be required to work on ladders up to 12 feet above the floor to perform essential tasks -Subject to driving to off-site locations in varied weather -Subject to working near or with operating machinery -Subject to exposure to paint fumes and caustic or toxic substances -May be subject to exposure to electrical hazards -OSHA category: performs tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: -Arm/hand steadiness and digital dexterity enough to use equipment such as computer keyboard, testing equipment, and hand tools such as hammer, pliers, screwdriver, electric drill, etc. -Vision enough to read computer printouts, schematics, instructions, hand- or machine-generated documents, labels, etc., as well as print on computer monitor -Visual acuity enough to distinguish between colors of objects such as wires -Speech and hearing, enough to communicate with others, both via telephone and face-to-face -Flexibility and coordination, enough to operate a motor vehicle as needed -Flexibility and coordination, enough to bend, stoop, stand, walk and to crawl to perform essential functions of the job -Strength enough to lift and carry objects weighing 50 pounds such as furniture, tree limbs, equipment, and other objects associated with various functions of the job -Coordination and balance, enough to work on ladders up to 12 feet above floor level to perform installation and repair tasks WORKING RELATIONSHIPS: This position requires frequent contact with other employees and with outside contractors to give and receive information and/or to provide assistance. The incumbent may be required to interact with clients and the general public in the performance of the job. The incumbent maybe required to occasionally deal with hostile persons. SUPERVISION GIVEN AND RECEIVED/ACCOUNTABILITY: This incumbent is under the supervision of the immediate supervisor. Work product is subject to both specific and general review. The incumbent has no supervisory responsibilities and no accountability for budget, money, or materials, although the incumbent may make recommendations which result in the expenditure of significant funds.
