FamilyAid has been recognized as a Top Massachusetts Workplace by The Boston Globe and by Charity Navigator as one of the nation's top organizations working to end homelessness.In early 2025, FamilyAid will open a Family Navigation Center in Newton, MA, a 2-acre, 31,000 s/ft facility that will provide temporary housing, educational services, and other supports that children and parents need to quickly obtain permanent housing and a pathway to long-term success and stability.Position Summary:Reporting to the Facilities Supervisor, the Maintenance Technician has the ability to perform cleaning and building/grounds maintenance, as well as repair duties utilizing power and hand tools commonly used in the industry, including but not limited to: power tools such as drills, and hand tools such as a tape measure, hammer, sockets/ratchet sets, pliers, plumbing snakes, screwdrivers, painting tools, pressure washers, lawn mowers, and leaf blowers. The Maintenance Technician ensures facilities standards are met in each program.Duties and Responsibilities:The Maintenance Technician ensures all facilities are well maintained with quality craftsmanship in the most cost-effective manner, monitors and reports condition of all units including furniture, furnishings, appliances, and building systems, performs post-inspection confirmation and reporting.By utilizing trauma-informed care practices, the Maintenance Technician assists and supports families to thrive during their temporary stay at the Center and assists in their rapid transition to permanent stable housing.Success in this role requires demonstrated success in working with complex families, effective trauma-informed care, service planning, critical time intervention, motivational interviewing, data collection, and a commitment to address multigenerational homelessness.RequirementsHigh School diploma or GED required.2+ years professional experience in facilities maintenance; preferably in a congregate residential facility.Experience in residential HVAC, plumbing, and electrical maintenance.Ability to perform building/grounds maintenance and repair duties utilizing power and hand tools commonly used in the industry including but not limited to power tools such as drills, saws, and hand tools such as a tape measure, hammer, sockets/ratchet sets, pliers, plumbing snakes, screwdrivers, painting tools, pressure washers, lawn mowers, and leaf blowers.Bilingual in Spanish or Haitian Creole desired.Work Schedule and Location:Full-time, on-site position, 40 hours/week. Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM-5 PM. Some evening availability or to be on an on-call rotation may be required. Must be able to respond to off-hours critical calls to resolve facility issues.
