MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN I Grade 7VSCSF Non-ExemptBASIC FUNCTIONTo perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance and construction work on College buildings and grounds.CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled trades work associated with the maintenance and construction of campus facilities, including:
- interior and exterior painting, staining, varnishing: prepare surfaces by cleaning, stripping and/or scraping, apply primers and final finishes;
- general carpentry repairs and basic construction tasks involving doors, window, walls, ceilings, floors;
- installation/repair of bathroom tiles and fixtures;
- drywall installation, including taping and joint finishing;
- routine plumbing and electrical maintenance and repairs;
- assistance on special construction projects, such as erection of stages for commencement ceremonies, installation of fences, construction of stairways, and the like.
- Clean up work areas, tools and equipment.
- Secure necessary supplies for assigned jobs.
- Perform related tasks as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVEDModerate supervision is received from the Maintenance Supervisor or other senior staff member.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSHigh school education desirable, plus four to five years of relevant experience/training, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.* Good basic knowledge and skills related to building maintenance, repair and construction, including rough carpentry, painting, drywall installation, basic plumbing, glass cutting and replacement, masonry work, and the like.Location: Johnson with travel between the Johnson, Lyndon, Williston campuses.This general outline illustrates the type of work which characterizes the job classification.
