Perform maintenance and construction work at the City of Columbia Parks and Recreation buildings, aquatic facilities, and parks. Conduct routine maintenance on facility HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems and/or perform a variety of construction trades including carpentry, concrete work, roofing, and masonry work.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities - The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. * Perform framing and finish carpentry work
* Form, pour and finish concrete for footings, pads, approaches, columns, and sidewalks.
* Operate a wide variety of light, medium, and heavy equipment associated with the construction trades.
* Operate surveying equipment and laser levels necessary for grading and construction of parking lots, roads, walkways, and structures.
* Complete the installation of water lines, sewer lines, storm drainage lines, valves, and electrical conduit.
* Perform electrical and plumbing work: install or replace fixtures, switches, receptacles, and wiring; and repair faucets, commodes, water heaters, and valves.
* Perform heating, ventilation, and air conditioning work; repair and install heating and air conditioning units.
* Conduct preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment, plumbing, electrical fixtures, concessions equipment, various piping, pumps, and motors.
* Work to maintain public pools by monitoring pool chemistry and repairing pool steps, stands, and slides.
* Load and unload cleaning supplies, materials, and equipment.
* Clean, maintain, and lubricate exercise machines and related equipment.

* High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational/technical training preferred.
* Minimum of three years relevant experience.
* Missouri general certificate in plumbing, electrical, and HVAC strongly desired.
* Must possess Aquatic Facility Operator license within 6 months of hire for positions assigned to maintenance.
* Must possess valid Commercial Driver's License Class B with airbrake endorsement within 6 months of hire.
* Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a safe driving record.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities which may be representative, but not all-inclusive of those commonly associated with this position
* Knowledge of electrical controls, aquatic systems and equipment, HVAC systems, and commercial plumbing and related fixtures.
* Extensive familiarity with standard hand tools, industrial and power tools such as floor buffers, carpet shampooers, vacuums, and drills.
* Working knowledge of safety standards and precautions of using machinery, tools, and cleaning chemicals.
* Ability to operate tools and machinery in an efficient and safe manner.
* Ability to read blueprints.
* Ability to survey using a transit.
* Ability to receive and follow written and verbal instructions.
* Strong sense of professionalism to provide excellent and courteous service to City employees and the public.
* Ability to be on-call on nights and weekends and for emergencies.

Position hours: Sunday - Thursday 5:00 am - 1:30 pm, with varying weekend and on-call responsibilities.

The Maintenance Technician performs maintenance and light construction work at the City of Columbia Parks and Recreation's Activity & Recreation Center (ARC). The primary focus of this maintenance technician position will be to conduct routine maintenance and repairs on the ARC's mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. An ideal candidate will have experience related to swimming pools and commercial HVAC systems. During the winter months, when there is inclement weather, this position will assist with snow removal at the ARC. This position also performs other related duties as assigned.
Candidates will be expected to obtain their Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) license within six months of hire so they may perform work to maintain facility's pool by monitoring pool chemistry and repairing associated equipment.
Candidates should possess or obtain a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License within six months of hire, and maintain an excellent driving record.
This position is full-time with benefits with an annual salary range of $46,727 - $57,475 ($22.47 - $27.63 hourly).
Position hours: Sunday - Thursday 5:00 am - 1:30 pm, with varying weekend and on-call responsibilities.
