Job Description

The Department has Maintenance Technician vacancies in the Roadway Operations and Maintenance Division. The primary goal of the Division is to maintain the roads and right of ways in Gwinnett County to ensure safe driving conditions for the public works infrastructure.

Essential Duties

* Operates various complex vehicles and equipment, and performs associated labor duties in the construction and maintenance of public roadways, airfields, sewer, water, and/or storm water lines or haul waste sludge to and from facilities.

* Maintains proper traffic control at work sites to ensure safety for both the work crew and the motoring public.

* Performs daily inventory checks on service trucks and obtains proper tools and/or equipment to perform job task.

* Transports materials and heavy equipment to various work sites.

* Inspects roads, airfields, bridges and right-of-way to ensure safe and efficient conditions exist.

* Performs minor repairs and preventative maintenance on tools and equipment.

* Cleans and repairs manholes as necessary to remove debris, obstacles and to prevent infiltration and installs and maintains sewer lines.

* Provides landscaping maintenance to include: grooming, clearing of branches, and maintaining grass and brush, shrubs and flowers.

* Improves erosion and drainage problems.

* Repairs pipes, and maintains roads and ditches, airfields, water mains and fire hydrants.

* Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Other Job Requirements/Information

* This job is a safety sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing.

* This job may require on-call rotation and emergency after hours, weekends, and/or holidays.

Grade

The grade for this position is A123, and B213.Salary will be dependent on education and experience.

Effective 4/11/2023, this position is eligible for the Employee Referral Program.

Minimum Qualifications

Maintenance Technician I A12(3) - $36,633 - $46,706

* Completion of coursework up through the eighth grade

* or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.

* Valid Driver's License

* Some positions require a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) which must be obtained within six months of employment. Once CDL is obtained, this position will require DOT drug testing and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Gwinnett County Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace.

Maintenance Technician II B21(3) - $43,238 - $56,209

* Completion of coursework up through the eighth grade

* One year of related maintenance experience

* or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.

* Road Flagging Certificate (must be completed within 60 days of hire)

* Valid Driver's License

* Some positions require a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) which must be obtained within six months of employment. Once CDL is obtained, this position will require DOT drug testing and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Gwinnett County Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace.
