Position: Maintenance Technician Job Type: Full-time Contract: 260 days; 12 month employee Salary Scale: Per approved board scale FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Virtual Risk (COVID-19):N/A In-Person Risk: Moderate to LowGeneral Definition of Work: Performs intermediate skilled trades work installing, maintaining and repairing electrical, plumbing, hvac, carpentry and other fixtures and equipment, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the supervision of the Maintenance Director. Qualifications Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Essential Functions: - Replaces HVAC filters during night shift, repairs, replaces, cleans and maintains coils, fans and motors; oils motors and pumps; checks belts and pulleys; checks drains for blockages; cleans drain pans.
- Installs, repairs, maintains and replaces a variety of plumbing fixtures including flush valves, water fountains, faucets, toilets, urinals, etc.
- Repairs and replaces ballasts, light bulbs, sockets, etc.; assists with major electrical repairs. Takes water and oil tank readings. Hangs maps, whiteboards, pencil sharpeners, etc.
- Performs basic grounds keeping duties; directs bus and vehicular traffic onto and out of school grounds.
- Maintains a clean, safe, and organized workspace.
- Provides courier services between facilities when needed; delivers supplies and mail.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: General knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in installing, repairing and maintaining HVAC, electrical and plumbing equipment; general knowledge of and skill in basic carpentry; general knowledge of the occupational and safety precautions of the work; ability to exercise independent judgment in determining operating conditions; ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, students and parents. Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED and moderate experience in building and facility maintenance and repair activities, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Requirements: CFC Universal Certification will be required to obtain within one year of employment; This position will require the ability to travel to and from schools and facilities inside and outside of the school division. Possession of appropriate license(s), certificate(s), and/or endorsement(s) for position as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board. Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the ability to operate motor vehicles. Marginal Functions: While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members. Human Interaction: Requires the ability to maintain a cordial and effective relationship with visitors and clients. Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or control motor vehicles and the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions. Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and/or advisory data and information. Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to problem resolution. Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: Physical Ability: This work requires the regular exertion of up to 25 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work requires reporting to the worksite daily; preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arms length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires working near moving mechanical parts and exposure to vibration and occasionally requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to the risk of electrical shockSensory Requirements: Work requires close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color perception and peripheral vision; work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices; Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; Some tasks require oral communications ability. Environmental Factors: Tasks are regularly performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as extreme heat or extreme cold, dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, violence, disease, or pathogenic substances.
