Job Summary/Scope
Performs general maintenance tasks to building and grounds at the Water Protection Facility. Assists Industrial Maintenance Technicians and Electronics Technicians as needed. No supervisory or budgetary responsibilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
* Assists troubleshooting malfunctions on, but not limited to pumps, valves, mechanical assemblies, and pneumatic assemblies.
* Assists with the removal of electric motors.
* Assists with repairing chemical supply delivery pumps and related sub-assemblies.
* Inspects used parts using rulers, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments and determines changes in dimensional requirements.
* Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
* Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
* Adjusts functional parts of devices, equipment, and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.
* Cleans work area and job site before and after work is performed.
* Assists with adjusting, aligning, and installing pumps, seals, conveyors, hoists, blowers, aerators, gear box assemblies, piping, air lines, heat exchangers and related assemblies.
* Assists in maintaining and overhauling wastewater, chemical, sludge, clarifiers, aeration basins, digesters, pumps, grit and refuse removal equipment.
* Cleans buildings, mops floors, empties trash and polices grounds.
* Cleans wet wells, washes weirs and bar screens.
* Performs basic carpentry, masonry and plumbing work as necessary.
* Performs routine building and ground maintenance functions.
* Operates equipment as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Obtains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications and vendor/manufacturer lead training.
* Valid driver's license required.
* Ability to follow oral and/or written instructions.
* Ability to troubleshoot mechanical equipment operating problems.
* Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical fabrication.
* Ability to learn and understand mechanical equipment technical data specifications, diagrams, and manufactures' blueprints.
* Knowledge of safety practices regarding work.
* Skills in the operation of mowing equipment, along with the use of various hand and power tools, measuring, alignment, and testing tools and safety protective equipment.
* Ability to operate a forklift and telehandler.
* Visual acuity and good oral communication skills.
Material and Equipment Directly Used
Operates a variety of equipment including such things as mowers, carpentry, masonry and plumbing tools, safety equipment and a forklift. Uses a variety of hand and power tools relating to buildings and grounds cleaning and grooming. Drives light vehicle. There may be times when use of personal vehicle may be required.
Working Environment/Physical Requirements
Work is performed under a variety of conditions, ranging from indoor work with a controlled environment, to outside tasks performed under a variety of extreme conditions such as cold, heat, windy and wet. Exposed to hazards such as electrical shock and chemicals. Must be able to stand for long periods. Requires periods of bending, climbing, kneeling, crawling, and other physical activities. Routinely lifts objects weighing up to thirty pounds. Occasionally lifts objects weighing as much as sixty pounds or assist in lifting objects weighing in excess of 100 pounds. Some overnight or day travel may be required for business purposes. Vacation and other leave scheduling shall be requested of and approved by the appropriate supervisor.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Passing of a drug screening required prior to appointment.
