What You'll Do: Electrical:
  • Single-phase vs. Three-phase electrical systems: Be able to explain the difference between single-phase (basic home power) and three-phase systems 230v/480V. (used in businesses and industries for more reliable power).
  • Measuring electrical resistance: Know how to measure the resistance in electrical circuits (using simple formulas like Ohm's Law: R=VIR = frac{V}{I}R=IV).
  • AC vs. DC: Understand the difference between AC (Alternating Current, used in homes) and DC (Direct Current, used in batteries and some electronics).
  • 110V Circuit with 20-Amp Breaker: Be able to figure out how much power is safe to use on a 110-volt circuit with a 20-amp breaker (Max wattage = 2,200 watts).
  • Class 1 Division 1 electrical systems: Know about special electrical systems used in hazardous areas where explosive gases or vapors may be present (like chemical plants).
  • GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter): Understand how a GFCI works to protect against electrical shocks by automatically turning off power when there's a problem.
Mechanical:
  • Using a torque wrench: Be skilled at using a torque wrench to tighten bolts to the correct level of tightness-important for machinery and vehicles.
  • SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers): Know what SAE means-it's a system of measurements for parts like bolts and tools, often used in cars and mechanical work.
  • Zerk fittings: Understand how Zerk fittings are used to grease parts of machines or vehicles, making it easier to maintain them.
  • Clevis: Know what a clevis is-a type of mechanical hook that helps join parts together, like in vehicles or machines.
  • Keyways: Be familiar with keyways, which are grooves in machine parts (like shafts) to hold things like gears in place.
Pneumatic and Hydraulic:
  • Schrader valves: Know about Schrader valves, which are commonly used in car tires and air systems to control airflow or pressure.
  • Rotary vs. Reciprocating compressors: Understand the difference between the two types of compressors used in air systems.
Who You Are:
  • Previous experience in maintenance or related field required.
  • Advanced understanding of 3-phase power systems and electrical systems.
  • Ability to schedule and perform preventive maintenance activities effectively.
  • Proficiency in reading schematics and blueprints for troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Strong organizational skills to maintain spare parts and tools inventory.
  • Experience in recording and logging maintenance activities for documentation purposes.
  • Effective troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve equipment issues promptly.
