JOB DESCRIPTION:
Primary Purpose: Perform a variety of functions and activities related to preventative maintenance, cleaning, repair and operation of swimming pool and pool equipment. Maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness and efficiency of operations in and around District pool facilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Pool Maintenance
* Perform pool maintenance duties; clean, sweep and vacuum pool gutters, sides and bottom; check chlorine and pH levels to assure appropriate content according to health standards; check gauges and assure pool water levels are maintained; maintain records of chlorine and pH level and gauge readings.
* Maintain the cleanliness of aquatic area including the deck and perform any minor repairs necessary.
* Clean filters, pool tiles and deck; backwash and refill pool, perform safety checks on pool filtration motors and equipment.
* Order and maintain a chemical inventory list of usage and needs.
* Create and maintain an equipment list for all district pools.
* Make recommendations regarding pool equipment that needs to be replaced.
* Assist in maintaining inventory of cleaning supplies, equipment and pool chemicals and request additional supplies as needed.
* Comply with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of pool chemicals.
* Provide written reports as needed related to pool chemical balance and usage.
Maintenance and Repair
* Assist with event setup at District pool facilities.
* Perform preventative maintenance to ensure the comfort, health and safety of students, staff and visitors.
* Make minor facility repairs as needed and report major repair needs to the supervisor.
* Move equipment within building as directed by the Pool Manager, supervisor or designee.
* Be available for call-outs after-hours.
Safety
* Assume responsibility for closing the building each school/work day.
* Follow established procedures for locking, checking and safeguarding facilities.
* Check to ensure that all exit doors are open and locks are working properly during hours of building occupancy.
* Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency. Report any faulty equipment and safety hazards to the supervisor.
* Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
* Follow established safety procedures and techniques in lifting, climbing and performing other job duties.
* Correct any unsafe conditions in the work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately.
* Attendance at work is an essential function.
* Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or designee.

EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Experience:
* 5 years of experience in pool maintenance including pool chemical applications preferred
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification:
* High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred
* Certified Pool Technician (CPT) preferred
* Valid Texas driver's license
* Eligible for coverage under the District's vehicle insurance program
Special Knowledge/Skills:
* Knowledge of pool equipment and maintenance methods
* Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance and safety procedures
* Ability to operate pool cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment
* Ability to properly handle chemicals, equipment and materials used in the cleaning process
* Ability to work independently
OTHER INFORMATION:
Equipment Used: Pool maintenance equipment, hand tools, power tools. Working Conditions: Mental/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Frequent walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over). Works outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces. Exposure to hot and cold temperatures; mechanical, electrical and chemical hazards; dust, toxic chemicals and materials. Works around moving objects or vehicles. Occasional prolonged or irregular hours.
