The Maintenance Technician is responsible for operating equipment and providing heavy manual labor work functions related to road construction/maintenance, drainage, erosion, and signage as part of the Public Works team.The City of Brentwood Public Works Department maintains over 500 lane miles of roadway and right-of-way, maintains and replaces street signs, collects brush from each residence once per month, performs right-of-way mowing, and street sweeping. The Public Works Department also maintains the storm sewer infrastructure including culverts, catch basins, and a few hundred miles of open ditch. They maintain 53 traffic signals, the City's fiber optic infrastructure, school flashers, and license plate reading cameras.The City of Brentwood, located in scenic Williamson County, is considered one of the most desirable suburban locations in Tennessee. The city is known for its strong business community, quality schools, abundant recreational activities, and high standard of living. It sits just south of Nashville and has a population of approximately 46,000 residents.Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operates and maintains equipment and machinery used in street and roadside maintenance (Power mower, edger, chipping machine, chain saw, power washer, post driver, and other equipment as required).
  • Provides heavy manual labor functions for landscaping and roadside projects, like cutting trees, spreading salt or gravel, patching roads, removing trash/litter, cleaning ditches/storm drains, sweeping, mopping, cleaning, etc.
  • Assists in labor-related duties involving bricklaying, pipe laying, sign installation, asphalt repair, right-of-way maintenance, etc.; assists in repairing storm drainage lines as instructed.

  • Is someone who enjoys working outdoors.
  • Has experience operating various types of equipment, regardless of industry.
  • Can work independently and as a team player.
  • Has a valid Tennessee Commercial Driver's License or willingness to obtain within twelve months of hire.
  • Is committed to serving the public while becoming a strong member of the Public Works team.
Minimum Training and Experience RequiredJunior High School education required (High School diploma or GED preferred), with some construction and maintenance labor experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. A valid Driver's License is required, and a valid Commercial Driver's License is required within the first twelve months of employment.Benefits:
