Position: Maintenance Technician (Semi-Skilled)/Custodian
Status: Non-exempt Classified
Salary: $16/hour
REPORTS TO: Head Custodian

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Ensure a clean and safe facility. Assist in maintaining buildings and grounds, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC and painting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND EXPECTATIONS OF THE POSITION:
The Maintenance Technician/Custodian is responsible for performing general maintenance of facilities and grounds, ensuring a clean, safe, and efficient working environment. Primary duties include assisting with carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and painting tasks. The technician follows established safety procedures and maintains a safe and orderly work area during and after all maintenance activities. Responsibilities also include maintaining tools and equipment in a clean and organized manner. Additionally, the role involves performing routine custodial duties as needed, such as cleaning classrooms, the cafeteria, restrooms, office areas, and other spaces to ensure cleanliness and compliance with facility standards.

Employee must demonstrate the skills and abilities listed below. Must have good moral character and ethical code. Serves as a role model for students and adults. Can take direction and has organizational skills. Is self-directed and enjoys working with people.
Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma or GED, custodial experience and some experience in facility maintenance.
Language Skills: Ability to read, write, and interpret documents and manuals pertaining to this job. Ability to understand written document, work orders, check lists, and compliance documents.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform four basic operations (add, subtract, multiply, divide) in whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to prioritize tasks, solve problems, and carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or diagram form.
Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to use and instruct others in the use of equipment, including computers.
Physical Demands: The employee may be required to do some heavy lifting and moving of equipment and objects. The employee must be physically active and coordinated to be able to access all areas of the building and property to troubleshoot, access, and/or repair equipment and buildings. Must be able to lift objects weighing 50 pounds or more.
Working Environment/Conditions: Responsibilities are completed in varied settings throughout the facilities and property. The work is completed in all types of working and climate conditions.
METHOD OF PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL
An appraisal will be completed on an annual basis with an instrument that is in concert with the duties listed on the specification. This appraisal has a self-evaluative component completed by the employee. The formal appraisal will be completed by the immediate supervisor with the input of the stated designees and a final, end of the year conference will be held to discuss a summary of performance and to set goals for the coming year.
