The preferred applicant will have a CDL license, experience in operating different types of small equipment (shovels, rakes, weed eaters, etc.) and be familiar with the Hickory street system. Must possess a minimum of a valid Class C driver's license from NC and must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.Salary Depends on QualificationsMajor Duties Maintains and repairs dumpster boxes; assists in welding, sandblasting and painting. Rides with various equipment operators to collect solid waste. Loads and unloads various materials. Performs routine maintenance on equipment (i.e., greasing, checking air pressure, oil and other fluids) and informs appropriate personnel of necessary repairs. Loads and empties refuse, yard waste, or recyclables into the truck.Assists in cleaning, equipping, and servicing truck to ensure proper operating condition at all times.Assists in washing vehicles and equipment.Must be able to work on all Holidays except Christmas Day, in all weather conditions and overtime when needed.Participates in ongoing training provided by the City of Hickory.After-hours work is required as necessary during emergencies, inclement weather and other times as necessary.
