DescriptionCOUNTY OF GREENE JOB VACANCYPOSTING DATE: 10/1/2024 CLOSING DATE: 10/10/2024POSITION: Maintenance Worker ILOCATION: Maintenance BuildingSALARY: $13.08/hrPayGrade 6 SEIU Bargaining Unit HOURS: 40 Hrs per week(Starting and ending to be set by management) Overtime as Required by SupervisorBENEFITS: Full County Benefits after 90-day probationOVERALL OBJECTIVE OF JOB:To perform skilled manual tasks in the maintenance of bridges, general upkeep of County facilities and operates the necessary motorized equipment. CDL License is preferred.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
Inspects and repairs bridges, sandblasts, paints, and completes all safety checks and requirements. Must have knowledge of basic plumbing, wiring, and carpentry. Operates motor vehicles such as trucks, tractors, backhoes, boom truck and similar equipment for the completion of maintenance assignments. Completes repairs to pavement, curbs gutters, drains culverts, and other structures. Prepares and sets forms, mixes concrete and other cement work, builds walls and completes other carpentry work as assigned. Completes general labor assignments, supply deliveries, and janitorial work. Performs all types of snow removal. Operates cutting and welding equipment in completing maintenance assignments. Prunes trees and hedges along roadways, mows and weed eats around bridges and County buildings. Completes building and office renovations, construction, and general upkeep of County facilities. Mixes concrete and other cement work, build walls, and complete other carpentry work. Repairs maintenance equipment i.e. mowers, and other mechanical assignments. Assists in working Elections.OTHER DUTIES OF THE JOB: Attends meetings, training and seminars as necessary. Assists other employees as requested. Assists election department staff on election nights and other special events. Performs other related duties as required.SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Receives regular instruction and supervision from the Director of Bridge and Facilities in regard to work duties.SUPERVISION GIVEN:No direct supervision.WORKING CONDITIONS: Works indoors and outdoors in a variety of workspace types from limited to adequate; fluctuating ventilation and temperatures and lighting. Works indoors and outdoors with high exposure to noise and constant disruptions. Above normal exposure to dust/dirt. Travels regularly to various buildings and County bridges for repairs. Regular exposure to outdoor elements i.e. wind, snow, rain, and sun. Regular exposure to weeds, grass, poison ivy, etc.PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CONDITIONS: Must possess hearing, seeing, speaking and reasoning skills necessary to carry out normal work duties. Must possess ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures and follow instructions. Must be able to sit, stand, and walk intermittently throughout the workday with frequent bending, stooping, squatting, pushing, pulling, reaching, or grasping and occasional twisting, kneeling, climbing, and driving as necessary to carry out job duties. Dexterity requirements range from coordinated movements of fingers/hands to operating equipment and using small hand tools to simple movements of feet/legs and torso necessary to carry out job duties. Heavy work regular lifting and carrying of timbers, equipment, supplies, or related equipment with weights of twenty-five to forty pounds and up to 300 pounds. Must be in good physical general health and demonstrate emotional stability. Must be in good physical condition with agility to be able to react quickly and move frequently throughout the day. Must be able to regularly work at heights inspecting and performing maintenance duties. Must be able to climb ladders and other apparatus to obtain necessary heights. Must be able to pay close attention to details and concentrate on work. Must be able to handle multiple priorities in an effective and efficient manner. Must be able to periodically work in crawl spaces.ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:1-2 years of working experience in public works type construction or maintenance and completion of a standard high school course; plus masonry, glass certification; trade school or additional education in the construction field is a plus OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. CDL License is preferredKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Must be able to speak and understand the English language and to follow complex oral or written instructions. Must possess ability to communicate clearly and effectively. Must possess initiative and resourcefulness in problem solving. Must possess ability to function independently, have flexibility and personal integrity and the ability to work effectively with co-workers, supervisor, general public and others. Must possess general knowledge of practices of bridge repair, construction procedures and techniques and the ability and skills to apply the knowledge in a safe and efficient manner. Must possess technical knowledge of operating equipment and various motorized vehicles. Must possess and maintain a current PA Driver's License. Must possess extensive experience in masonry, glass replacement and repair.
