Position Type: Support Staff/Maintenance WorkerDate Posted: 7/1/2024Location: District OfficeClosing Date: Untill Filled Job Summary To help maintain the physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times. Reports to Supervisor of Maintenance and the Superintendent. Essential Job Functions
- Performs a variety of work in the maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds at various facilities/sites within the district.
- Avoids disrupting building activities except during emergencies. Consults with the maintenance supervisor to schedule major repairs and ensure compliance with building codes.
- Advises district on maintenance items that require outside contractors for repair or placement. Addresses all emergencies immediately once notified.
- Ensures assigned work is completed in a timely manner. Monitors building conditions. Reports suspected problems and/or unsafe conditions (e.g., unusual odors, discolorations, noises, leaks, etc.).
- Takes appropriate action to protect district property. Ensures that assigned buildings and job sites are secured at the end of the day.
- Insures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use.
- Preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects to maintenance supervisor.
- Safely operates vehicle in the loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment.
- Maintains appropriate records of activities, work orders and participates in the development and maintenance of applicable procedures and work plans.
- Examines district owned facilities on a regular basis for the purpose of preventive maintenance.
- Follows district work order procedures.
- Performs duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards. Responds to emergencies as needed.
- Maintains a professional appearance.
- Performs other specific job-related duties as directed.
- Willingly performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. Has some experience in building construction.
- Must possess a valid South Carolina driver's license.
Knowledge:
- Thorough knowledge of school district methods, procedures, policies, and activities pertinent to the duties of the position.
- Knowledge of the policies, procedures and activities of the school District which pertains to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position.
- Knowledge of the records, forms and reports which must be prepared and maintained.
- Knowledge of proper maintenance of equipment, materials and supplies used in daily work.
- Knows how to provide training and assistance to other employees as necessary.
Skills/Effort:
- Ability to understand and apply District policies and procedures.
- Has the ability to communicate effectively with employees, supervisors, and other agencies involved in the activities of the department.
- Has the ability to compile, organize, prepare and maintain an assortment of records, reports and information in an effective manner.

- Is capable of working under a degree of stress related to duties that require constant attention and/or tight deadlines.
- Ability to use general office equipment such as computer, copier, calculator, etc.
Working Conditions: Physical demands requiring the lifting/moving of items weighing up to fifty pounds. Occasional local travel is required. No overnight travel required.
