Ensures cleanliness, disinfectedmaintenance, and a comfortable, safe and healthy environment that is free of hazards for county employees and the public. This position provides training, assigns and reviews the work of Maintenance and Custodial workers, and recalls employees during emergencies. In collaboration with the supervisor, facilitates requests for maintenance assistance, custodial assistance, addresses quality issues, and responds to facility and equipment problems, and safety issues. The Maintenance & Custodial Worker Lead maintains the County's buildings and campground to provide the public with safe and well-maintained facilities, and grounds. This position performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, and HVAC repairs in and around the Rice County facilities. The Maintenance & Custodial Worker may perform custodial duties and tasks. This position properly maintains equipment to ensure safe and efficient operations. Work is performed under the supervision of the Facilities Supervisor. Examples of Duties
  • Provides work direction to Facilities Maintenance and Custodial staff.
  • Reviews custodial work for quality and completeness, and provides corrective feedback and guidance related to employee's performance, as needed.
  • Provides training on work assignments, procedures, equipment, quality and safety standards. Orientates new hires regarding work assignments, building locations, and custodial equipment, use and safety.
  • Performs various duties related to the upkeep and maintenance of County facilities.
  • Maintains County grounds.
  • Maintains and operates boilers and performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance as needed.
  • Operates, and performs preventative maintenance and repair on equipment.
  • Maintains foreclosed properties, including removable and questionable materials. Secures units and mows properties as directed.
  • Checks and adjusts mechanical dam; logs water levels. Performs inspections on outlying non-mechanical lake dams.
  • Performs other duties as necessary.
Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:The job requires a high school diploma and three (3) to five (5) years of experience with custodial and facilities maintenance, or equivalent. A valid MN Class D driver's license is required at hire. Computer competency with MS Outlook and MS Office programs is required. The ability to work at heights such as building roofs and from ladders is required.Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:Must possess at hire or obtain a MN Special Boilers license within 90 days of employment. A MN 2nd Class C Boilers license must be obtained within 18 months of hire.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:One (1) to three (3) years' experience in a lead or supervisory capacity. Experience working with computerized facilities management systems is desirable.
