JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Penn State Harrisburg is searching for a Maintenance Mechanic, Doors (Harrisburg) to join their team. Duties include:
- Troubleshoot, repair, and replace various electronic equipment and components of the Access Control System
- Verify integrity of wires/cables using electronic test meters
- Trace out and repair wire/cable problems
- Replace card swipes, security cameras, and actuating solenoids
- Refer additional problems to supervisor for appropriate action
- Install access control systems on various doors; run wires/cables through walls, door frames, wire molding; cut doors and frames to fit new hardware including electric strikes, panic devices, door magnets, request to exit switches, PIRs, etc.
- Maintain access control components such as modules, power supplies, battery backups, cables, etc.
- Update design drawings or work orders to reflect minor changes and proper circuit assignments; store in central repository
- Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, hardware schedules, key schedules, service manuals, etc.
- Perform site surveys, using design drawings, or work orders, to verify installation or maintenance needs
- Perform maintenance, repair, and replacement of mechanical elements related to doors to include but not limited to lock cores, door closers, hinges, doorknobs, crash bars, door frames, etc.
- Perform a variety of routine carpentry work such as adjusting and rehanging doors and repairing door frames and damaged doors
- Troubleshoot all reports of doors not closing or opening properly
- Perform preventative maintenance on all exterior doors
- Make repairs as necessary
- Ensure that handicapped-accessible doors are functioning properly; make adjustments as required
- Maintain security of door and security system at all times
- Communicate with University Police, Maintenance and Operations, and Information Technology regarding maintenance issues related to electronic and mechanical door systems
- Respond to on-duty emergency calls and make repairs as necessary
- Be first response for mechanical and electrical calls
- Report facility and building issues to appropriate personnel
- Log actions when applicable to ensure complete and accurate documentation
- Maintain a supply of regularly used equipment
- Request additional parts and components to replenish inventory, as necessary
- Organize equipment and maintain inventory records
- Make recommendations to supervisor when new equipment may be needed
- Occasionally train and direct the work of other employees, as necessary
- Use various tools such as sander, grinder, router, metal grinder, jointer, planer, table saw, electric drill, ladders, scaffolding, and various other hand tools for maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair
- Operate University vehicle
Job Requirements: Requires the use of shop mathematics together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, various types of adjustable measuring instruments and the training generally applicable in a particular or specialized occupation. Equivalent to 1 to 3 years applied trades training. Over 1 year up to and including 3 years of effective experience. Work Schedule: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Days Off: Saturday, Sunday NOTE: THIS POSITION REQUIRES THAT YOU OPERATE A MOTOR VEHICLE AS A PART OF YOUR JOB DUTIES. A VALID DRIVER`S LICENSE AND SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF A MOTOR VEHICLE RECORDS CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED IN ADDITION TO STANDARD BACKGROUND CHECKS.
