Performs responsible semi-skilled work in the care and maintenance of facilities and equipment at the Regional Landfill or within the Regional Landfill service area. Does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision.The Landfill Maintenance Worker I position is the entry-level position in the Landfill Maintenance Worker job series. Landfill Maintenance Worker I employees possess basic skills and perform semi-independent work.The hiring range for this position is from $16.19/hour to $22.27/hour based on experience. The full salary range for this position is from $16.19/hour to $28.34/hour to provide opportunity for growth and development.Assists with the operation and maintenance of the landfill, operating trucks, loading containers, operating, repairing, and maintaining landfill equipment;Operates trucks, loading containers, zero-turn mower, trimmers, and other landfill equipment;Operates a variety of power equipment and tools;Performs custodial tasks;Performs building and grounds maintenance;Unlocks security gates;Cuts grass and shovels snow;Picks up litter;Checks vehicles entering the landfill area and directs to appropriate dumping area;Verifies authorization to dump;Advises and assists citizens with landfill and recycling procedures;Complies with safety programs, guidelines, and procedures;Performs related tasks as required.Knowledge and Skills Required:General knowledge of landfill operation and recycling processes and procedures;General knowledge of a variety of maintenance, custodial, and manual tasks;General knowledge of roadways, traffic, and litter patterns in Stafford County and the City of Fredericksburg;Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work;Some knowledge of a variety of tasks involved in the operation of a landfill;Ability to identify infectious and hazardous waste and follow proper handling procedures;Ability to operate machinery and lawn care equipment effectively and safely;Ability to operate vehicles with standard transmission;Ability to organize and perform various, but related tasks;Ability to be flexible and shift projects as needed;Ability to understand and follow specific vocal and written instructions;Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public;Ability to obtain a Traffic Safety (flagging) certification acceptable to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and at least 1 year of experience with manual labor in a related field. Experience with driving a lift body dump truck or similar vehicle is desirable.Possession of a Traffic Safety (flagging) certification acceptable to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.#J-18808-Ljbffr
