The Maintenance Worker I position will be responsible for manual work involving the custodial care of institutional premises. Employees perform cleaning and minor maintenance work in institutional buildings. Work involves the use of proper methods and materials in cleaning and otherwise caring for the buildings, and equipment. Work may also involve physical labor. Employees work under close supervision.
Salary: Appropriate placement on the Alabama Community College System Salary Schedule E5 (Salary range: $28,836 - $51,793 annually)
Benefits: Full time employees are entitled to the College's benefit package to include: PEEHIP, retirement, leave (annual, sick, and personal).
ANTICIPATED START DATE: As soon as possible
The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but may not be limited to, the following:
* Scrub, mop, strip, wax, and polish floors; dust and polish furniture; wash windows, woodwork, toilets, washrooms, and fixtures.
* Replace toilet tissue, paper towels, hand soap and deodorant blocks as needed.
* Empty and replace garbage and trash can liners.
* Inspect assigned building(s) for evidence of damage, decay, cracks in walls, peeling paint, leaking pipes, leaks in roof, or other hazardous conditions, and notify Director of Maintenance of problem area.
* Clean and change filters.
* Replace light bulbs.
* Pick up litter from campus grounds.
* Record maintenance and service work performed on work orders.
* Perform preventive maintenance as needed.
* Move furniture or equipment on school grounds.
* Secure appropriate tools, equipment, or supplies, and assist with tasks/problems related to grounds.
* Supervise work study workers.
* Direct campus visitors to buildings and answer inquiries about campus.
* Maintain professional conduct and communication with students, college employees, and all visitors.
* Assist with graduation, sports events, and other special events.
* Substitute for absent personnel when appropriate and assist with other maintenance duties as needed to include grounds work.
* Arrive for work at scheduled time, observe scheduled breaks, and maintain appropriate work hours.
* Use work time efficiently and effectively.
* Ability to work outside in varying weather conditions.
* Willing to work overtime, holidays, and weekends when necessary.
* Required to wear a uniform and safety equipment.
* Perform related work as assigned by supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
* High school diploma or GED is required.
* One (1) year experience in custodial, janitorial, or related maintenance work is required.
* Valid driver's license (must be insurable) is required.
