DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:To perform semi-skilled maintenance work in the construction and maintenance of city streets, street signs, parks, and water and sewer utilities.Receives general supervision from an assigned supervisor.Exercises no supervision.* Operate hand and power tools including air compressor, welding torch, grinder, grease machine, chainsaw, weedeater, riding and push lawn mower, paint machine, pole chipper, and a stump grinder.* Perform additional construction and maintenance tasks such as concrete work, truck driving, asphalt spreading, jackhammering, and a variety of minor repair activities.* Participate in cleaning job site; remove refuse and debris; cut and remove foliage.* May work evenings and weekends as required by staffing shortages or emergency conditions.* Perform semi-skilled maintenance, construction and repair work in the area of work assigned.* Use and operate hand tools, mechanical equipment and power tools and equipment required for the work in a safe and efficient manner. Work independently in the absence of supervision.* Work safely with dangerous materials.QUALIFICATIONS:* Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.* One year of experience comparable to that of a Maintenance Worker I in the City of Jackson.KNOWLEDGE OF:* Methods and techniques of construction, maintenance and repair related to the assigned area of responsibility.* Operational characteristics of mechanical equipment and tools used in the assigned area of responsibility.Possession of a valid driver's license is required.PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT, APPLICANT RECOMMENDED FOR EMPLOYMENTSHALL BE REQUIRED TO SUCCESSFULLY PASS A URINALYSIS AND/OR BLOOD TEST TO SCREEN FOR ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUG ABUSE.
