The District is committed to providing a workplace where people are treated with dignity, decency, respect and professionalism.The Public Utility District No. 1 of Skagit County ( District ) is seeking multiple Maintenance Workers to perform a variety of heavy manual labor and other tasks in the maintenance and repair of District facilities and associated infrastructure.Work is performed under adverse working conditions, in all types of weather, and can be at any hour of the day or night (although normal schedules are set and consistent).Essential Duties: Routine maintenance on fire hydrants, meters, valves, pump stations, reservoirs, buildings, mowing, clearing, and other areas as directed. Locates, inspects and performs maintenance on valves, hydrants and meters from maps, drawings, and sketches to gather asset-related information. Also performs limited pavement, site restoration and environmental protection in and around construction sites. Specialized duties include new services, tie-ins, leak detection and repairs, resolving customer issues, investigations and meter testing. May also include installation and repair of customer water services of all sizes, water distribution system repairs, shutting down and repairing water mains, tapping water mains, resolving flow complaint issues, and investigating water theft, backflow and other system risk issues.See Job Description for full position detailsRequired Education and ExperienceHigh School diploma or GED required.Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.At least two (2) years experience performing physical labor, preferably in connection with the maintenance and repair of underground utilities.Certifications and TrainingWater Distribution Manager 1 (WDM1) certification is preferred, and preference will be given to these candidates.Preference given to candidates with a CDL Class A with tanker endorsement, or must be obtained within one (1) year of hire at the applicant's expense.Cross Connection Control Specialist (CCS) certification must be obtained within 1 year of hire.The following are strongly preferred: Flagger card, Forklift certification, Competent Person/Cave-In Protection training, Confined Space training, Asbestos Cement Pipe Work Practice and Procedure training, and First Aid/CPR/AED certification.Please see full job description for a complete list of minimum qualifications and required knowledge, skills and abilitiesPhysical Requirements: Position requires sitting, standing, walking, balancing, lifting, bending, kneeling, reaching overhead, pushing, pulling, crawling, climbing, twisting, gripping, driving, stooping, crouching, finger dexterity, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Incumbent must have the ability to hear emergency communications and commands. Requires ability to lift objects more than 59 pounds.CompensationThis is a Union-represented position and is subject to the most current Collective Bargaining Agreement. The full salary range for a Maintenance Worker is $34.61 - $44.31 per hour. The anticipated hiring range for this position will be $34.61 - $40.14 depending on experience and qualificationsSkagit PUD offers a complete benefits package including medical/dental/vision (no cost to employee/dependents), life and disability coverage, PERS and Teamsters pension, deferred compensation, generous paid time off, holidays, and more.
