Position Type: MaintenanceDate Posted: 7/24/2024Location: School Board OfficeDate Available: 2024-2025 School Year Job Title: Maintenance Worker Supervisor: Maintenance Supervisor Contract Length: 240 Days Job Classification: Exempt Job Summary Performs tasks to assist in maintaining the ongoing care and services of school buildings and school furnishings. Essential Duties The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:

Complies with all safety rules and regulations.

Assists in performing skilled work that deals with maintenance and repair of buildings, structures, and fixtures.

Operates woodworking equipment and machinery.

Responds to emergency duty assignments when required.

Assists in the skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing facilities.

Assists in the repair and maintenance of water, gas, oil, and sewage pipes and lines.

Assists in the construction, repair, and finishing of structures and furnishings.

Performs outside duties due to seasonal changes such as but not limited to mowing grass, trimming shrubbery, clearing weeds, planting trees, snow removal, etc.

Communicates freely within the chain of command.

Promotes exchange of ideas with fellow workers.

Shows respect for fellow workers and students.

Keeps work area neat and engages in good safety practice.

Follows instructions and is able to work independently.

Operates and cares for equipment and property appropriately.

Other Duties

Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent or other appropriate administrator.

Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator aligned with the mission and vision of Essex County Public Schools.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required) High school diploma or equivalent required and one to three years of general maintenance experience preferred; basic competencies in reading, math, oral, and written communication; physical strength, dexterity, ability, and desire to complete required duties; knowledge of common practices, tools, and terminology of general maintenance. Certifications: Electrical and / or HVAC - preferred Working Conditions & Physical Requirements Must have the ability to stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to operate equipment; see and read printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; physical agility to lift 50 pounds; to bend, stoop and reach overhead.
