Summary This position will be assigned to the JBSA Lackland Lodging Facilities. This is a regular part-time category position with guaranteed 20 hours per week, may work up to 40hrs/week. Employees appointed to regular category positions are eligible for benefits. Must be able to bend, lift, and work in awkward positions both indoors and outdoors. Must be able to frequently lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted. Responsibilities The purpose of this position is to perform minor construction and repair on existing structures involving standard measurements, specifications, instructions, and basic shop mathematics. Installs exterior and interior trim using preplanned materials, such as baseboard, and molding. Replaces broken or missing acoustical ceiling tile, broken door and window trim, window screens, stairway steps, wooden porches, door jambs, and other damaged wood components. Interprets specifications, such as work orders with sketches or easily understood blueprints and technical instructions to plan and layout work. Repairs and refinishes furniture and repairs. Follow inspections conducted by incumbent or specific information (work orders), locates and makes repairs to plumbing that can be accomplished by installing, removing, cleaning, replacing, modifying, package, and sealing defective parts of utility, supply, gas distribution, and disposal systems such as dirty traps, sections of broken tile or pipe, and leaky drains using existing routes, openings, hangers, and levels. Caulks and seals such things as elbows, union joints, and tiles or pipes, faucets, and shower drains. Checks operation and completes needed repairs to small parts and sections of existing systems, such as water heaters, disposal units, and faucets. Prepares wood and metal surfaces to be painted; mixes and prepares coating aerial, and applies coating materials. Prepares surfaces by scraping, wire brushing, masking, spackling, and sanding surfaces. Mixes and thins coating materials to obtain desired consistency following specific written directives. Applies coating materials, such as primers, paints, varnishes, and shellacs, using standard application techniques and ensures that the coating finish meets surface protection requirements. Makes minor electrical repairs by replacing fixtures, switches, stove burners, electrical cords, bulbs, and fluorescent fixtures. Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of gasoline powered equipment to ensure equipment is in good mechanical and safe operating condition. Performs routine maintenance such as oil change, minor adjustments, spark plugs cleaning and replacement on such equipment. Performs routine inspection and minor maintenance on Lodging vehicles to include oil change, battery checks, condition of brakes, filling tanks with gasoline, checking fluid levels, hoses and filters, changing fan belts, and replacing lights. Required to move equipment, furniture, and supply items between quarters, supply room and warehouses. Drives vehicles weighing up to I0,000 pounds to various locations both on and off base. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's): You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: 1. Must possess knowledge of woodworking techniques and basic shop mathematics to plan, layout, measure, cut, construct, and install materials according to dimensional requirements and specifications where fit and accuracy are within specified tolerances. 2. Must possess knowledge of standard plumbing methods and techniques including a knowledge of flow and drainage. 3. Must possess knowledge of safety regulations and procedures. 4. Skills in joining and sealing elbows, faucets, shower drains, plastic, metal, and title pipes, and similar items. 5. Skill to operate and maintain hand and power tools and equipment. 6.
