MAINTENANCE WORKER

An Overview
A Maintenance Worker performs skilled and semiskilled work in the maintenance, repair and alteration of buildings, building fixtures and equipment. Ordinarily employees are required to perform at the skilled level in one of the building trades, but work assignments are so varied that employees must possess reasonable skills in several such trades. Assignments are received in the form of oral and written work orders and may be accompanied by sketches, penciled layouts or blueprints. Work order descriptions are sometimes vague and must be checked by the employee to determine exactly what the job entails regarding materials, time and staff required. Work is performed under the general supervision of a superior who provides general or specific instructions and inspects work upon completion.
What You Should Bring
Thorough knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and materials used in building maintenance and repair work; good knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to building maintenance work; skill in at least one of the building trades and reasonable facility in several related trades; skill in the use and care of tools and equipment necessary to perform various building maintenance and repair tasks; ability to interpret and work from sketches and penciled layouts; physical ability to perform job tasks; and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
The Opportunity - Examples of Work
* Act as facilities representative with oversight of contracted trades, security and fire protection maintenance in secured and other facilities to include fire protection.
* Perform miscellaneous facilities work to include deconstruction, modifying and assembling office systems furniture, hangs/installs pictures, art work, clocks and signage.
* Perform rough and finished carpentry to include repair and replace flooring, shelves, stairs, drywall, trim work, counters, cabinets, gates, interior and exterior related carpentry work; paint, install drywall, moldings, plaster and other work related to ceiling systems.
* Perform repairs and maintenance on electrical systems to include furnishes, replace and install light bulbs at various facilities and use of electrical and electronic testing devices.
* Perform minor repairs and preventative facilities maintenance on HVAC equipment to include replace filters, clean equipment and maintain cleanliness of mechanical rooms.
* Perform repairs and maintenance on plumbing, masonry and glazier systems to include replace light bulbs, caulk, unclog drains and snaking lines, check generator fuel levels; glass window replacement and masonry repairs.
* Install, replace and repair door, window and locking systems to include caulking, sills, latches, closures, panic bars, weather stripping, kick plates and handles.
* Perform general maintenance and cleanup, and snow removal.
* Performs related work as required.

Minimum & Additional Requirements
High School Diploma or GED; completion of vocational school courses; some experience on a skilled level in building maintenance and repair work; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities; and possession of a valid driver's license by the state of their residence.
Preferred Qualifications
At least two years of building maintenance experience, including preventive maintenance and repairs to equipment, buildings and facilities with an understanding of various building related codes. Must possess the ability to lift objects over 44 pounds with or without accommodations; ability to stand for long periods of time; ability to pull, push, reach above shoulders, repeated bending, crawling and climbing; frequent walking indoors and outdoors; ability to perform work in adverse work conditions.
Notes
This position requires the successful completion of pre-employment background checks including but not limited to drug testing, criminal background and medical screening- Fit for Duty.
Outside of general business hours the Maintenance Worker will be required to work evening and weekend hours on a rotational base.
