An employee in this class performs routine semi-skilled tasks in a variety of building trades and in grounds maintenance. Tasks are performed under the general supervision of either a Maintenance Mechanic or Lead Maintenance Worker depending on the area of work. Incumbents in this class may perform routine tasks independently, with completed tasks being inspected by a supervisor. Examples of Duties(The following examples illustrate the work performed in the positions in the class. Positions may require some or all of these examples depending on the organization of work within the department. The list is not inclusive. A position may require duties not listed, if necessary, to accomplish the work of the department.)Performs minor tasks in repair and renovation in the areas of carpentry, drywall, drop ceilings, floors, painting, finishing, and/or other trades under close supervisionAssists in the more difficult tasks in any of the building tradesKeeps equipment in safe and proper working orderOperate power tools assignedMoves and transports office furniture and/or surplus times, as requiredDrives County vehicle in carrying out assignments, as requiredBe able to communicate with othersUpon successful completion of the probationary period, complete the job and building repairs on an independent levelOther duties as assigned Minimum Qualification RequirementsKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Thorough knowledge of the common practices, procedures, materials and tools, and equipment used in the building trades and in grounds maintenanceKnowledge of the safety precautions followed in those areasSkill in the use of hand tools and ground toolsAbility to use and work from a ladder and to work on roofsCursory knowledge and understanding of shop drawings and blueprintsSkill in the use of and ability to use and maintain the hand, grounds, and power tools and equipment related to a position assigned under this classAbility to work effectively with others; to handle all material necessary to accomplish a job assignmentAbility to follow simple oral and written instructionsAbility to reach, grasp, climb, bend, stoop, kneel, and stand for prolonged periods of timeAbility to lift and move heavy objects up to 100 poundsAbility to work from drawings, sketches, specifications work orders and prepare simple work reportsAbility to drive a County vehicle and/or equipment while carrying out some assignments.EDUCATION:Possession of a high school, vocational-technical school, or possession of a GED certificate. EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of experience in building construction/maintenance work.LICENSE:A valid Class C non-commercial driver's license with no more than three (3) points.
