Salary: $35,110.40 - $63,870.21 Annually Location : Plantation, FL Job Type: Full time Job Number: 101PWSideW-06 Department: PUBLIC WORKS GENERAL Opening Date: 12/13/2024 Closing Date: 12/30/2024 8:00 AM Eastern Description This is a non-exempt position, which is unskilled and limited semi-skilled manual work. An employee in this classification is responsible for the performance of light and heavy manual labor, which does not require a high degree of manipulative skill. However, as work experience is gained, employee may be assigned to somewhat more difficult tasks of a semi-skilled nature. Work is usually performed under the immediate direction of an employee of higher classification; however, constant supervision is not necessary for familiar tasks, which can be carried out without difficulty once they are learned. HOURS: Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Employees are hired as AT WILL employees that serve at the pleasure of the City and may be terminated at any time with or without cause. Examples of Duties Cleans culverts, ditches, swales, canals and build retaining walls. Mixes concrete, replaces and repairs sidewalks throughout the City. Digs, grades and sets forms for concrete work; tamp and level concrete. May install new and old road signs; erect barricades and repair breaks and holes in street surface. May work as a helper to a skilled trades worker. Exercises care and safety in use of equipment and tools required to complete assigned tasks and knowledge of safety rules and regulations prescribed by the City. Executes purchase orders authorized by the department director. This position does not have final procurement authority. Performs related work as required and as directed. Typical Qualifications Knowledge of the methods, tools, equipment and material used in construction, repair and maintenance of sidewalks and related areas. Knowledge of the occupational hazards of the trade and of the proper use of safety devices and practices. Ability to perform a variety of maintenance and repair tasks on the sidewalk crew. Ability to use hand tools, including but not limited to: sledgehammer, pick, shovel, broom, hydraulic power equipment, jack hammer, tamper, cutting blade, etc. Ability to form sidewalks and pour concrete. Ability to move heavy material; perform manual labor for extended periods of time under hot and humid conditions. Ability to adhere to tight schedules and still maintain quality. Ability to understand and carry out instructions and to complete work assignments correctly. Ability to operate a City vehicle and possess the required CDL license. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and other employees. DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAININGEducation and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent; supplemented by a minimum of 6 months of experience in ground, street, and/or landscape maintenance; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Licenses and Certifications: Valid State of Florida driver's license. Physical Demands The work is medium work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work requires the ability to balance, climb, crawl, crouch, lift and/or carry and push/pull various objects. Work Environment Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor environment and requires travel from site to site. This is a designated Response classification in the City's Emergency Operations Plan and will require the employee occupying this position to work for declared emergencies. Attendance at National Incident Management System (NIMS) training at the appropriate level is mandatory. Probationary Period All new employees serve a one (1) year probationary period from date of hire. Working Hours Most full-time employees work 40 hours per week unless otherwise indicated. Hours of Operation Monday through Friday (except City Holidays) 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM unless otherwise noted. Pay Check Pay checks are issued bi-weekly every other Friday; direct deposit of paycheck required to any banking institution is mandatory. Insurance CoverageLife and Accidental Death and Dismemberment Closest thousand to amount of Annual Salary (policy paid for by the City) up to $50,000. Hospitalization, Major Medical, Dental and Vision The Employee pays a portion of the cost for themselves and for dependent coverage at a rate established by Administration. Dependent Coverage: spouses are eligible only if they do not have entitlement to participate in another employer's group medical plan or Medicare. General Employees Pension Retirement - Mandatory contribution is 4% of base pay. Normal Retirement Date: Age 59 and completion of 10 years of credited service. Holidays The City of Plantation observes eleven (12) paid holidays per year as declared by the City Council each year. Personal Day All full-time employees will be given the benefit of one (1) personal day per calendar year. Cannot be used until employed six (6) months; can not be carried over from one year to the next. Sick Leave 13 days per year. Accrues 4 hours at end of each bi-weekly pay period. Maximum accrual is 480 hours. Annual Leave General Employees 1 - 5 years - 13 days per year 5 - 15 years - 19 ½ days per year 15 years or more - 26 days per year Maximum Accrual is 240 hours. An employee is not entitled to use annual leave until employed 6 months. Funeral Leave 3 days (8 hours each) Jury Duty Paid full salary - all fees received, excluding mileage must be turned into the City. Educational Reimbursement Employees will be entitled to a refund of their tuition and lab fees upon the successful completion of each approved course based on the following scale: (After one (1) year of employment) Grade A.....................100 percent refund equal to the state fees charged Grade B.....................75 percent refund equal to the state fees charged Grade C.....................50 percent refund equal to the state fees charged Pass in lieu of grade.....50 percent refund equal to the state fees charged 01 Do you have a valid driver's license?
