Responsibility SummaryThe Major Gifts Officer (MGO) will play a critical role serving as the principal fundraiser for our new CAN Hope initiative. They will lead the donor engagement and development, including cultivating/soliciting a portfolio of individual and corporate donors, and event sponsors specifically for CAN Hope. In partnership with the Chief Development & Marketing Officer, the MGO will establish a major gifts program, design, develop, and implement all fundraising initiatives for CAN Hope. The MGO will support the marketing and communications process in coordination with the Chief Development & Marketing Officer (CDMO.) Reporting to the Chief Development & Marketing Officer and partnering with the Development & Marketing Team and CAN Hope Program Staff the MGO will work to foster and sustain a robust culture of philanthropy to advance the mission of CAN Hope.DEI&AB Culture Commitment: The Major Gifts Officer (MGO) is responsible for creating an inclusive environment that demonstrates equity, inclusion, accessibility, and belonging to our clients, ChicagoCAC employees, and partners. The position also assists in ChicagoCAC's Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Accessibility and Belonging (DEIAB) initiatives.Primary Responsibilities:Strategic Leadership
  • In coordination with the CDMO, creates annual budget for annual fund and events, and creates periodic reports on progress toward goal.
  • Serve as the primary relationship manager for CAN Hope's portfolio of prospects, developing and implementing a written donor strategy and relationship record (using Raisers Edge) of all interactions.
  • Communicate with portfolio through face-to-face cultivation, solicitation and stewardship meetings, and written strategies; ensure that each major donor and prospect has a clear strategy and timeline for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
  • Develop solicitation strategies for donors / prospects in support of the organization's annual fund, planned giving, and growth campaigns; ensure strategies are compatible and maximize opportunities with other existing campaigns and appeals.
  • Support the fundraising efforts of the Chief Development & Marketing Officer and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in securing new and renewed gifts.
  • Ensure proper donor recognition in all publications and oversee accurate donor lists for those publications.
  • Work collaboratively with members of the Development & Marketing department to develop and maintain a detailed campaign plan and calendar in order to achieve campaign goals.
  • Creates and utilizes a data-driven donor relations strategy to maximize revenue for CAN Hope.
Annual Fund
  • Develop and implement identification, qualification, and cultivation strategies for a portfolio of individuals with the capacity to make major to mid-level gifts (between $1,000 and $25,000), nurturing relationships through personalized communications, meetings, and engagement opportunities in accordance with ChicagoCAC policies, procedures, and funding priorities.
  • Drives the growth of the corporate and events giving. Identify new corporate sponsors.
  • Manages and cultivates a portfolio of donors including individuals, corporations, and event sponsors.
  • Assess gaps in giving from individuals, corporations, event sponsors, and develop strategies to improve in those areas.
  • Recognize contributions with acknowledgment letters and special recognition events.
Fundraising Events
  • Research and identify prospective new sponsors and proactively initiate sponsorship and funding.
  • In collaboration with the CEO and CDMO, liaise with board members to support their fundraising efforts.
DiscretionMajor Gifts Officer has a high-level range of discretion and independent decision-making.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesMajor Gifts Officer has no direct reports. Development and Supervisory staff are expected to participate either as a volunteer or paid attendee at organization fundraisers (including but not limited to: Luminary Award Dinner, Associate's Board Event, A Night of Heroes, etc.) Supervisory staff are also expected to participate in ChicagoCAC sponsored client/staff/community events (including but not limited to: Child Abuse Prevention Month Activities, Back to School Backpack Drive, Kid's Holiday Party, Spirit Squad Events, etc)It is expected that our supervisory staff will participate in as many of these events as possible. Relationships The Major Gifts Officer works closely with the Chief Development and Marketing Officer, members of the Development and Marketing Team, and the CAN Hope Leadership team.QualificationsMinimum educational requirement of a bachelor's degree, CFRE a plus. 5 years of experience in fundraising, sales, and/or business development. Previous work in domestic violence Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasked environment, with a willingness to learn and adapt in an ever-changing environment. Must possess excellent management skills, professional written and verbal skills, including report writing and presentation and organizational skills.     • PTO days are used for all days off, including holidays and sick time so you have maximum flexibility in the use of your PTO.
    • Timing of vacations may be dependent on client needs, as that's our first priority.
    • PTO goes up to 40 days after 5 years.
    • Additional PTO for FMLA-related reasons up to 20 days.
    • A remote work policy that provides flexibility in work hours so long as operational needs are met.
    • Regular expert training on evidence-based therapy modalities, which includes being able to earn Continuing Education Units.
