Job Description:
The Major Gifts Officer serves as part of a team of professional staff in the Fredonia State University Advancement Division which includes the areas of development, alumni engagement, annual giving, corporate and foundation relations, donor relations and stewardship and marketing communications with the goal of maximizing private support for the University. This front-line fundraising position will develop and maintain a portfolio of 75-100+ major gift prospects and donors with capacity of $25,000+ and requires working knowledge of the moves management process, the principles and practices of fundraising in adherence to CASE best practice standards. The Major Gift Officer will work to build the donor pipeline through in-person visits, that include a combination of discovery, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship engagement. This position partners with deans, directors, and members of the faculty and staff to manage donor and prospect activity and translate University priorities into fundraising plans and goals. The Major Gift Officer reports to the Vice President, University Advancement/Executive Director of the Fredonia College Foundation.

KEY RESPONSBILITIES
Reporting to the Vice President for University Advancement, the successful candidate will:
* Develop and manage a prospect portfolio of 75-100 prospects with focus on top individual prospects rated at $25,000+;
* Utilize various giving methods such as cash, pledges, and deferred giving;
* Assist with overall fundraising strategies, including support through major gifts, annual giving, endowments, and planning giving;
* Conduct an average of 10 face to face meaningful visits per month;
* Build and maintains portfolio to ensure that timely steps are taken toward solicitation, closure, and stewardship;
* Collaborate closely with development and alumni engagement colleagues, donors, volunteers, University Leadership and faculty to identify new prospects;
* Partner with deans, directors, department heads, and members of the faculty and staff to manage donor and prospect activity and translate University priorities into fundraising plans and goals, supporting their activities with briefings, talking points, and itineraries as needed;
* Create opportunities to engage key stakeholders, volunteers and University leadership in the cultivation, and where appropriate, the solicitation of current and potential donors;
* Perform administrative duties related to advancement work including documenting of contact activity in the Banner CRM module in a timely and thorough manner, writing proposals and gift and pledge agreements, and adhering to Fredonia College Foundation policies;
* Represent the Advancement Department on internal and external committees and events as appropriate;
* Ability to travel as needed; and work occasional nights and weekends in support of University and Advancement activities and events;
* Participate in committees and provide service to the department, college, university, and profession;
* Perform other duties as assigned;
* Be aware of, understand, and follow all university policies.
Essential Skills and Experience
* Experience in individual fundraising;
* Experience with working with both internal and external stakeholders to build engagement and advance fundraising goals;
* Excellence in identifying priorities, meeting deadlines, and producing quality results on time with attention to detail;
* Demonstrate strong written and verbal communications skills, including the ability to effectively communicate the University priorities to donors and prospects, and to positively represent the University and Foundation;
* Ability to listen perceptively and convey sensitivity and awareness. Be able to engender trust and confidence of donors and prospective donors and to maintain confidentiality of donor information;
* Impeccable integrity and discretion in dealing with donors, alumni, students, administrators and colleagues as well as confidential information;
* Ability to produce business correspondence, solicitation materials, appropriate letters of acknowledgement, proposals to individuals, corporations and foundations, and reports;
* Be familiar with the use of computers and information management tools including Microsoft Outlook, and Google Docs;
* Be able to handle multiple tasks, to assess and order priorities, and to track details in a fast-paced environment;
* Demonstrate attention to and concern for others.
Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
* Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution;
* Three to five years of professional fundraising experience, with emphasis on individual giving in a higher education or non-profit field;
* Experience in and strong documented record of gifts solicited and closed in the annual, major gifts range;
* Knowledge of Microsoft Suite of applications is required as is familiarity with other applications, programs and databases as needed with a willingness to learn new technologies.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Master's degree from an accredited institution;
* Prior higher education experience;
* Familiar with SUNY system.

These are full-time, 12-month, UUP represented positions beginning January 6, 2025.
