DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:The Boston Red Sox Sports Medicine Service is dedicated to delivering premier healthcare solutions that promote player health and performance in alignment with the organization's values and protocols. This department employs a holistic approach, integrating medical and performance services to reduce injuries, facilitate timely evaluations, and provide long-term education for players and staff.POSITION OVERVIEW:The Boston Red Sox are seeking an experienced and dedicated Athletic Training Coordinator to oversee the rehabilitation program for Major League players, focusing on managing the rehabilitation process for players on the 40-man roster. The Athletic Training Coordinator will ensure the effective implementation of the organization's rehab protocols, provide best-in-class rehabilitation services, and maintain adherence to the highest standards of sports medicine. This role requires a commitment to excellence in sports medicine and a strong understanding of professional athlete rehabilitation, with a focus on delivering the best possible outcomes for player health and performance.RESPONSIBILITIES Clinical Care: Provide clinical care to players, including examination, diagnosis, prognosis, treatment, and injury prevention, based on the best available evidence and under the guidance of the VP of Sports Medicine.Rehabilitation Oversight: Collaborate with the Head Athletic Trainer to develop and manage rehabilitation programs for both short-term and long-term injuries, ensuring continuity across the organization.Facility Management: Oversee rehabilitation for MLB and MiLB players at the Fort Myers, FL facility, including periodic travel for on-site support.Team Travel: Travel with the Major League team as needed to provide rehab support and manage player health during away games.Operational Support: Assist with day-to-day operations within the Sports Medicine Service to ensure efficiency and adherence to protocols.Communication: Provide clinical updates on player progress to coaching staff, front office personnel, and public relations staff, as appropriate.Medical Consensus: Participate in discussions with the Sports Medicine team to determine injury diagnoses, prognoses, and treatment options for injured players.Education and Mentorship: Mentor Minor League Physical Therapists and Rehab Specialists, contributing to the department's professional development initiatives.Excellence in Sports Medicine: Work with the Head Athletic Trainer, Team Orthopedist, and VP of Sports Medicine to develop a center of excellence in sports medicine practices.Documentation: Comply with internal documentation guidelines, maintaining accurate records of players' health status.Draft and Free Agent Evaluation: Contribute to the evaluation of amateur draft prospects and perform risk assessments and physical exams for free agents.Budget Management: Assist in the development and management of the Sports Medicine Service's annual budget.Clinical Care for Staff and Families: Provide or coordinate healthcare services for non-playing staff and player families, as required.Licensure Compliance: Maintain state licensure as a physical therapist and submit annual proof to the Medical Director.Additional Duties: Perform other tasks as directed by the administrative staff within the Sports Medicine Service.COMPETENCIES Identifies and effectively treats regional or specific impairments in musculoskeletal conditions.Identifies and executes rehab plans for all injury types for all player positions.Analyzes workload data and objective measurements to build RTP progressions.Exhibits care-giving qualities, bed-side manner, and empathy to players of all backgrounds and cultures.Prescribes appropriate exercise for muscle re-education.Understands how and why injuries occur and utilizes this understanding to treat the injury problem and not just the symptoms.ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS Doctor of Physical Therapy degree required.Minimum of 5 years' experience in baseball or other high-level sports (collegiate or professional level) required.Additional professional credential/certification (ATC, OCS, SCS, CMPT, etc.) is required.Preferred:Multiple certifications- For example, PT, ATC, OCS, or PT, OCS, CMPT, or PT, SCS, CMPT, etc.Certification as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).Specialized manual therapy training beyond entry-level physical therapy school as evidenced by continuing education certificates if no formal certification has been achieved.Specialized biomechanics training beyond entry-level physical therapy school as evidenced by continuing education certificates if no formal certification has been achieved.Specialized training in research/sports science beyond entry-level physical therapy school as evidenced by continuing education certificates if no formal certification has been achieved.Evidence of prior teaching experience at the adjunct professor level or higher.Evidence of prior management/supervisory experience.Spanish or other pertinent language skills.In addition to the above requirements, all roles within Baseball Operations are expected to effectively demonstrate our universal competencies related to problem solving, teamwork, clarity of communication, and time management, along with embodying our culture of honesty, humility, relentlessness, and commitment to DEIB.
