The CDI Manager will work in association with the CDI clinicians, coders, and all members of the healthcare team to ensure accurate and timely clinical documentation in the medical record. The CDI Manager's responsibilities will include:•Supervision of all phases of the Clinical Documentation process including:o Review processes of complex patients of different ages and development in acute and chronic disease stateso Education and communication plan•Demonstrate proven leadership and management skills to promote effectiveness of the CDI program•Ensuring accuracy and completeness of clinical information used for measuring and reporting physician and hospital outcomes•Provide direction for the provision of education to the medical staff and the healthcare team regarding clinical documentation opportunities, coding and reimbursement issues, as well as performance improvement methodologies•Demonstrate knowledge and job experience in management and supervision of personnel, including team building and conflict resolution•Extensive collaboration with other members of the health care team to provide data and solution development processes•Provide ongoing Clinical Documentation Improvement program education for new staff, including new Clinical Documentation Registered Nurses, physicians, coders, staff nurses and allied health professionals. •Tracks and trends program compliance to ensure adherence to all CMS regulations regarding DRG assignment•Assume responsibility for professional development through participation at workshops, conferences, and/or in-services and maintains appropriate records of participation•Understand and disseminate reports to appropriate administrative personnel indicating productivity and success of the CDI programMinimum Qualifications:Education: Registered Nurse with BS in Nursing, at a minimum, with at least ten years acute care experience with recent management or supervisory experience. MSN or MBA preferredo Advanced clinical expertise and extensive knowledge of complex disease processes with a broad clinical experience in an inpatient setting•Licensure/Certification: Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse•Knowledge/Special Skills: o Demonstrated leadership skillso Strong, positive attitudeo Excellent verbal and written communication skillso Understanding of change management processeso Current on CDI leading practice standardso Understanding of Quality Improvement processo Proficiency in negotiation of complex systems to effect changeo Proficiency in computer usage including database and spreadsheet analysiso Understanding of organizational policies and procedureso Extensive knowledge of regulatory systems - Knowledge of Medicare Part A Job Functions:•Accountability for success of the CDI programo Track and report productivity and success•Day to day oversight of the program•Management of the CDI Process Flow •Coordinate, direct and provide education to the CDI team and medical staff•Provide CDI Team, physicians and administration ongoing feedback•Create and disseminate reports from the CDI Tool•Provide necessary feedback and conflict resolution to the CDI Team•Perform staff evaluations•Collaborate with Physician Liaison/Advisor regarding any physician resistance to the program and develop an action plan to address this if it occurs•Schedule and lead monthly Steering Committee meetings, CDI/Coder Team meetings, etc.Other:•Active participation on departmental and hospital committees and assigned Task Force groups•Comply with HIPAA and Code of Conduct policies•Maintain interaction with appropriate resources that support growth and education of the CDI TeamThe University of Miami offers competitive salaries and a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, tuition remission and more.UHealth-University of Miami Health System, South Florida's only university-based health system, provides leading-edge patient care powered by the ground breaking research and medical education at the Miller School of Medicine.
