About the job Manager Distribution Center Operations (2nd Shift) Build Your Career with Ashley! Distribution Center Operations Manager What Will You Do? The Operations Manager will lead productivity management activities for multiple departments, work centers, and processes on an assigned shift within a distribution center. This role involves mentoring department supervisors to meet overall performance goals in terms of productivity, cost, quality, and safety. The Operations Manager will coordinate activities through strategic planning with departmental supervisors, supply chain support teams, HR managers, and transportation management to ensure timely and cost-effective achievement of operational objectives. This position requires strong analytical problem-solving skills, the ability to deep dive into critical business problems, and the acumen to leverage data to provide effective business solutions. Responsibilities:

  • Productivity Management: Direct productivity management activities for multiple departments, work centers, and processes on an assigned shift within the distribution center.
  • Process and Quality Improvement: Lead efforts to develop new processes and improve product quality by collaborating with internal and external customers and suppliers.
  • Forward Planning: Plan in a forward capacity by coordinating with purchasing, production, and inventory control to maintain product flow and meet operational and financial objectives.
  • Standards and Compliance: Ensure adherence to high standards of distribution center cleanliness. Conduct regular safety audits and ensure compliance with safety training and practices.
  • Employee Management: Make employment decisions and recommendations on hiring, improvement plans, transfers, promotions, terminations, and pay adjustments. Manage employee performance, provide coaching and mentoring, administer performance reviews, and plan and implement employee training and skill development activities.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Use data analysis to identify trends, diagnose issues, and develop actionable insights. Leverage data to make informed decisions and propose efficient business solutions.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with other departments (HR, Finance, Facilities, Safety and Security, IT) to align staffing plans, schedules, and performance levels with business needs.
  • Resource Optimization: Optimize resources, including equipment, facilities, employees, methods, and materials to achieve operational excellence.
  • Continuous Improvement Projects: Drive continuous improvement projects by utilizing Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Kaizen techniques. Apply data-driven methodologies to streamline processes, reduce costs, and enhance productivity.
  • Inventory and Systems Management: In your inventory control and systems environment, manage timely data collection, update operations metrics on an hourly basis, and ensure accuracy in inventory management and order fulfillment.
  • Safety and Health Standards: Maintain health and safety standards within your remit area while promoting an inspiring health and safety culture on-site.
  • Performance Monitoring: Regularly audit operations to ensure standard operating procedures are being adhered to and manage employee time-keeping and absentee records accurately.
  • Communication and Leadership: Communicate company and departmental goals effectively. Facilitate employee growth through regular team meetings, coaching, and training sessions.
  • Customer Satisfaction: Ensure operational goals align with customer satisfaction targets, understanding customer needs, resolving complaints, and enhancing the overall customer experience.
What Do You Need? Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in distribution/ecommerce leadership or a related area.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to deep dive into critical business problems.
  • Supervisory/Management experience leading a team of hourly associates
  • Experience in managing resources to optimize equipment, facilities, employees, methods, and materials.
  • Proficiency in Lean Methodologies and Continuous Quality Improvement principles.
  • Experience with system improvement methods, capacity planning, and product flow.
  • Proven ability to leverage data analysis to drive business insights and solutions.
  • Strong project management and continuous improvement skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree or equivalent.
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen techniques.
  • Experience in a logistical or e-commerce fulfillment environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in the MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to mentor and train team members.
  • Flexibility to work weekends and/or night shifts.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with a high level of ambiguity and change.
  • Customer service orientation and a data-driven mindset.
