Required Qualifications
3-5 years of relevant experience in the following:
* Event/Meeting/Hospitality planning and management.
* Managing and/or coordinating venue changeovers / conversions or event set-ups.
* Managing and supervising others.
* Ability to work extended days, evenings, and weekends on a regular basis.
* Portrays the highest level of professionalism in all aspects of daily operations and interactions.
* Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills.
* Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with varied constituencies of the RIT community, including students, faculty, staff, and alumni are preferred.
* High attention to detail and follow up, and excellent planning and organization skills.
* Competent knowledge base on utilizing technology, including audio-visual equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
* Proficiency with Event Management System or equivalent scheduling software application.
* Advanced degree in Hospitality or Event Planning/Management, business, or a related field.
Department/College Description
The University Arenas department encompasses the management and operation of the premier event venues at RIT, including the Gene Polisseni Center, Gordon Field House & Activities Center, Lobozzo Alumni House, University Gallery, and the Tait Preserve and Leenhouts Lodge. Additional business functions consist of sales, marketing, promotions, campus wide ticketing, and event planning/management; as well as agricultural operations and property management at the 177-acre Tait Preserve. The 400,000+ square-feet of venues host 400+ events annually with over 300,000 in event attendance.
Job Summary
The Manager of Events and Operations is responsible for the day-to-day activities and the planning and execution of events held in the Lobozzo Alumni House and University Gallery, two premier event venues and visitor destinations on the RIT campus. The position is responsible for venue conversions and event set-ups while providing direct supervision of the Events and Operations student staff responsible for all venue conversions and event staffing needs. They will manage all event logistics, including the coordination of events from inception through execution of events held within the two venues.
The Manager will monitor and maintain venue equipment inventory, while making purchasing decisions for operational items within the venues. They will represent University Arenas, the Lobozzo Alumni House, and the University Gallery while developing and maintaining close collaborative relationships with members in the departments of Alumni Relations, the College of Art and Design, with those throughout the RIT community, and with off campus clients and vendors they interact with.
