We are looking for a Manager III with broad managerial experience to ensure smooth institutional operations in support of the work of the Getty Conservation Institute (GCI), which includes approximately 100 staff. Reporting to the Associate Director, the Manager III is a new role within the GCI, working along-side and in close partnership with the GCI leadership team to understand and provide overall operational management of the GCI. The position will be primarily responsible for: assessing and improving the quality and efficiency of institutional operations; the implementation and improvement of organizational procedures; assessing risk involved with the GCIs international work; oversight of institutional staffing; development, planning, tracking, and reporting on the GCIs annual operating budget of $17M; regular financial analysis; and providing guidance and management based on extensive knowledge of accounting practices.
This job will be based in our office at the Getty Center in Los Angeles. It will begin in the office full-time and the opportunity to request a telework schedule may be available after an initial period of training and orientation and will be discussed and approved by your supervisor. Typically, staff with approved telework schedules at the GCI are in the office more than half of the time.
About Us The Getty Conservation Institute is dedicated to finding ways to improve the conservation of the worlds cultural heritageits art objects, museum collections, historic buildings, and archaeological sites. We are located at the Getty Center in Los Angeles, and our work often takes our staff to heritage sites across the globe including locations in South America, Asia, and the Middle East, where we work in partnership with heritage professionals from the region. Our staff come from diverse disciplines including architecture, archaeology, conservation, information science, chemistry, engineering, operations management, administration, and communications.
Major Job Responsibilities:The work of the Manager III impacts the Getty Conservation Institute (GCI), as a whole. Working with the GCI leadership team, you will identify and solve a wide range of complex problems related to travel, expenses, contracting, and payments, as they impact our international project work. You will bring expertise in areas of finance, operation management, and financial analysis and provide guidance and direction regarding decisions in these areas. Collaborating with the GCI leadership team, project teams and staff across all GCI departments, you will establish and improve financial and operating procedures that facilitate our international work, while also complying with Getty policies and best business practices. Assess medical, health, safety, and reputational risks involved with the GCIs international work and advise the GCI leadership team on potential issues and risks in locations where our work takes place. Be responsible for mentoring, coaching, counseling, training, and contributing to performance evaluation for direct reports and staff throughout the GCI. Play a key role in helping the GCI leadership team plan strategic priorities and implement programs. Take a leadership role within the GCIs Administration department specifically with responsibility for the management, direction, vision, long-range planning, and operations of the department. Develop professional relationships with and regularly liaise with colleagues from other Getty departments and programs, including Procurement and Contract Services, Accounting, Digital, Security, Facilities, Finance, and Risk Management, to quickly address operational issues. Manage the GCIs operating and reserve funding budgets and have responsibility for the development of budgets, objectives, and long-range goals for the GCI. Working with all GCI departments and project teams, overseeing the preparation of annual budget proposals for complex international research, education, and field projects. Be responsible for financial analysis and budget reporting that is presented to Getty Trustees. Apply comprehensive expertise in budget planning to oversee fiscal year end planning.
Qualifications:Bachelors degree 710 years of supervisory experience in finance/accounting and/or project/process management experience Prior budget management experience a plus Proficiency with standard business software

Advanced computer skills and demonstrated proficiency with Excel, general office software, and financial reporting systems applications. Proficiency with PeopleSoft Financials is a benefit.
