DescriptionPlans and manages the work of an intercultural engagement team; leads in the development of communications and placement of content to reach targeted audiences; manages the planning of strategic community relations and engagement that creates an inclusive, productive, and welcoming environment; coordinates the translation of multilingual content across multiple platforms to strengthen and build community relations and outreach with Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) families and communities, and provides consultative support to staff as needed.QualificationsRequired
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in communications, community relations, or a related field.
- Four (4) years of experience in leading community engagement or public affairs for a large agency, school district, or corporation, some of which shall have been in an oversight or supervisory role.
- Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience.
- May require work on evenings, holidays, and weekends.
- Knowledge of current best practices for community outreach and effective communication with a broad range of stakeholders and diverse audiences.
- Knowledge of community outreach strategies, public education, news media, public relations practices, and crisis communications.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations such as public information, Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and ADA compliance.
- Familiarity with the various communities FCPS serves and their cultural needs.
- Proficiency in the use of technology and data compilation, analysis, and reporting.
- Ability to work within a multicultural community, recognizing the sensitive nature of collaborating with people of different cultural backgrounds and expectations.
- Ability to effectively lead teams in multiple projects.
- Ability to plan, manage, and supervise programs and personnel.
- Ability to facilitate meetings and/or present information to groups.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure, multi-task in a fast-paced environment, and meet tight deadlines.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
