GENERAL FUNCTION

The Manufacturing Operations Manager is responsible for directing the manufacture of prescription eyewear in a finishing lab processing up to 1000 jobs per day. Leads supervisors and production teams to successfully achieve daily performance goals, maintains a safe working environment and promotes a culture of engagement that provides opportunities for growth and advancement.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for building a cooperative and inclusive work environment that will meet and exceed the needs of the lab's customer base and marketplace

Lead and manage employees within the lab. Provide coaching and leadership to support successful performance. Identify training needs, initiate staff orientation/development, and effectively manage performance (increases, retraining, transfers, or terminations)

Responsible for the management and efficient use of all lab assets, including but not limited to production equipment, inventories, furniture and fixtures, et al.

Review daily production schedule for the lab to plan work and objectives

Anticipate and determine causes of delays in shift operations and take appropriate action to meet shipping schedules

Make customer calls with the Sales Account Manager or on their own to retain, develop, foster customer relations, and address laboratory issues of importance to the account.

Work with Marketing Department and Sales Account Manager to execute promotional programs and marketing strategies.

Responsible for timely holding of all safety and RTK meetings and the reporting of the activities to appropriate corporate personnel. Maintain work environment in compliance with OSHA standards.

Take part in the interviewing and hiring process. Conduct orientation of new hires and safety training with the department job instructor and safety committee members.

Apply company employee relations policies in all dealings with employees.

Effectively communicate with all levels of the organization to ensure understanding and the proper application of company policies, practices and procedures.

Continually review and search for ways to improve processes to simplify jobs, eliminate non-value-added tasks, reduce costs and make recommendations to higher management.

Understand and follow all company and manufacturer's policies and procedures and ensure compliance with all attendance & safety rules and regulations. Maintain confidentiality of all proprietary information.

Willingly assist others as necessary to keep work current, meet deadlines or maintain an even workload. Cooperate with other employees and demonstrate a good attitude. Perform an acceptable quantity and quality of work on time as required.

Attends in-house or sponsored training meetings when necessary.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Associate Degree or equivalent work experience

6+ years of experience in an ophthalmic laboratory environment

General computer skills: Microsoft Office - Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook

Excellent leadership skills, with the ability to maintain an even workflow and a motivating work environment

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Strong communication skills to manage interactions with internal and external customers

Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Prior supervisory or management experience is a plus

Optical college training is preferred
