Job Overview:
This position requires a technical expert in Small Onsite Operations (SOS) control system design, networking, and operation. The individual can independently evaluate complex safety and operational issues from a national perspective and set OES-Controls policy with regards to control system and cybersecurity standards, guidelines, and directives in mind. This position will also provide oversight and over the top control system support where needed.
Reporting Relationship: Reports to the Director of Operations Engineering (LG US) working out of the office in Burr Ridge, IL.
The Manager, OESC-Onsite Plants will be responsible for Linde's Advanced Control System (ACS) Standard Plant Operations support in the United States. In this role the individual will lead a team of process control engineers supporting over 250 facilities, ensuring safe and reliable control system operation, in addition to executing moderately complex control system engineering projects. The process controls team performs operations support and project engineering work from design to implementation in accordance with Linde policies and procedures. As a technical expert, the role includes training across the larger LG US organization within SOS (Technical Support Engineers, operators, technicians), reviews and approves work of less experienced process control engineers and is consulted due to expertise with design standards, tools, and documentation.
The selected candidate will work closely with other engineering groups, and many times will co-lead programs through development and deployment. The position will align and anticipate business challenges with LEA to maintain LG US standards, policies, and procedures. Close interaction with SOS TSE group, Corporate IT, and other corporate and regional businesses is expected. The successful candidates should develop a team capable of making technical decisions based on full awareness of viability, cost, and other benefits.
Primary Responsibilities:
* Managing a team of over 6 process control engineers across five region-based business units throughout the U.S. supporting over 250 facilities ensuring safe and reliable control system operation
* Program manager of US Industrial Gases Next Generation Human Machine Interface deployment
* Administer and maintain control system standards, policies, procedures, and best practices in support of business needs
* Continuously strengthen group through staffing, assignments, training, and succession planning
* Interface with cost reduction and project engineering teams to implement standard technology solutions for capital expenditure on new and existing plant designs
* Provide plant operations feedback to control system Community of Practice to improve existing and new standard designs.
* Implement systems related work associated with HMI data collection, IMPAC and Central Control Room systems.
* Participate in Root Cause Analysis meetings as the control systems' subject matter expert to drive resolution and new standards for implementation.
* Facilitate technical direction to team members and provide additional control system support when required.
* Coordinates team meetings and decisions; provides technical direction to team members.
* Interface with internal and external customers/suppliers.
* Keep current with state-of-the-art tools, design practices and concepts.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
* 8 or more years of relevant work experience.
* Extensive experience and knowledge in the field of Advanced Control System engineering and working knowledge of other fields, i.e. process, electrical, mechanical.
* Understanding of P&I diagrams, schematic wiring diagrams, ISA symbology for hardware and software, I/O distribution, PLC / PAC configuration.
* Able to provide off-hours support as necessary to solve problems during non-working hours.
* Ability to travel up to 10%.
* Practical Networking experience including LAN/WAN/Router configuration background.
