Job Description:

The Manager of Sterile Processing has the overall responsibility for maintaining high quality and efficient, effective decontamination, processing, assembly, sterilization, storage, purchase and distribution of sterile and non-sterile medical devices utilized in patient care in accordance with Federal, State, OSHA and Joint Commission requirements, and organizational goals.

The Manager of Sterile Processing is accountable for the 24-hour management of human and material resources in the sterilization and delivery of items used in patient care.

This position develops departmental goals, develops and administers the budget, develops, coordinates, and updates departmental policies and procedures and directs the total functioning of all Sterile Processing Units of Renown Health.

The incumbent manages the staff by interviewing, hiring, training, evaluating, counseling, and guiding their professional growth. This position collaborates with all managers in the affected facilities to deliver safe, efficient, high quality health care.

The items prepared are for use in the care of patients ranging in age across the spectrum.

Incumbent is challenged to ensure the availability of all sterile supply and care of portable equipment on a 24-hours/seven day per week basis.

The incumbent is challenged to efficiently balance their time and effort among the lead technicians, and staff of multiple facilities.

The major challenges to this position are organizing, planning, staffing, directing, coordinating, controlling, and evaluating the operations of multiple Sterile Processing Units throughout the Health System, supporting the Renown Health Mission, Vision, and Values, and ensuring that services provided are efficient, effective and consistent with a focus on safety and efficiency.

This position does not provide patient care.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

1. Knowledge of management theory and application.

2. Ability to work in a system characterized by stress, intensity and a demand for high levels of performance with varied work hours.

3. Knowledge of corporate, federal, state, OSHA and Joint Commission regulations.

4. Specific knowledge of aseptic techniques, microbiology, patient care procedures, medical-surgical devices and equipment, inventory control, sterilization, and sterile storage requirements.

5. Knowledge of supply distribution and patient charge systems.

6. Ability to conduct effective departmental management meetings within the areas of responsibility for this position.

7. Ability to present departmental briefings to administration and management concerning the functional responsibilities and operations of central processing.

8. Ability to plan and execute new programs or program changes within sterilization services.

9. Knowledge of departmental budgeting and budget execution.

10. Ability to understand and implement instrument tracking/equipment control computer system and upgrades.

11. Understanding of steam sterilization, and gas plasma techniques and procedure with an emphasis on safety.

12. Ability to develop or modify departmental scopes of service.

13. The knowledge and management techniques used in developing cost containment measures without jeopardizing Quality

14. Skills to demonstrate the principles of Renown Health Standards of Conduct.

15. Knowledge of reusable textiles, their individual qualities and cleaning properties.

16. Knowledge of good infection control policies and procedures.

17. Management skills demonstrating excellent sterile processing techniques.

18. An understanding of the logistical challenges imposed by geographical location, weather conditions, and proximity to vendors.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. Bachelor's degree in healthcare/business field or equivalent experience required.

Experience:

3-5 years of experience in a quality, central service or surgical services setting. Supervisory experience in the operating room or central services preferred.

License(s):

State of Nevada Registered Nurse license is preferred.

Certification(s):

CSPDT or CRCST preferred upon hire. Required to obtain CSPDT or CRCST within 24 months of hire. Required to obtain CHL or CSPM within 24 months of hire.

Computer / Typing:

Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
