Job Description:
The County Parks Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, maintenance, and development of county parks and recreational facilities. This position involves managing park staff, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards, and enhancing the park's services and amenities to benefit the community. The manager will also assist in coordinating special events, community outreach, strategic planning for future park improvements, and other duties as assigned.Responsibilities:Park Operations Management: Oversee all aspects of county park operations, ensuring the parks are clean, safe, and well-maintained for public use.Staff Supervision: Train and supervise park maintenance workers, seasonal staff, and volunteers; assign tasks, evaluate performance, and provide ongoing staff development.Program and Event Management: Assist in planning, coordinating, and supporting recreational programs, events, and special activities, including community outreach programs, educational initiatives, or seasonal events.Facility and Grounds Maintenance: Ensure the upkeep of park amenities such as picnic areas, trails, pet areas, restrooms, and shelters. Oversee regular inspections and repairs of basic park infrastructure.Planning and Development: Collaborate with County Parks Superintendent to develop long-term strategic plans for park improvements, expansion, and sustainability, including land management and new facility development.Safety and Compliance: Monitor compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding park safety, environmental protection, and accessibility. Implement and enforce safety protocols for visitors and staff.Public Relations and Community Engagement: Promote park programs and services through marketing, social media, and public outreach. Attend meetings and training seminars for continued environmental and parks education.Environmental Sustainability: Ensure that park activities and development plans adhere to sustainability and environmental stewardship principles, including conservation of natural resources, habitat protection, and waste reduction.Emergency Response and Crisis Management: Respond to emergencies, such as natural disasters or accidents, and manage crisis situations to ensure public safety and minimal damage to park properties.Reporting and Documentation: Maintain accurate records of park activities, checklists, and employee performance. Prepare and provide reports as needed for the Parks Superintendent.Qualifications:Education: A bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation Management, Environmental Science, Public Administration, or a related field is preferred.Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in park management, recreation services, or a related field, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.Leadership Skills: Strong management abilities to lead, motivate, and direct staff effectively.Financial Acumen: Experience in budget development and financial management.Knowledge of Park and Facility Operations: Understanding of park maintenance, landscaping, and facility management practices.Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking and conflict resolution.Problem-Solving Abilities: Ability to address and resolve issues related to maintenance, staff, and park operations in a timely and effective manner.Physical Fitness: Ability to perform physical tasks such as walking or inspecting park grounds, especially in outdoor environments with varying terrain.Technology Skills: Familiarity with Office software (Word, Excel, etc.), scheduling tools, and other widely used office equipment and software.Desirable Traits:Passion for outdoor recreation and community service.Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.Ability to work with diverse groups and build partnerships.Knowledge of local environmental issues and sustainable park practices.Physical ability to navigate parks, inspect facilities, and handle minor maintenance tasks when necessary.This position typically reports to the County Parks and Recreation Superintendent or a similar county authority.***St. Clair County is an equal opportunity employer and adheres to the principles and practices outlined in applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations that prohibit discrimination in employment and hiring. ***#J-18808-Ljbffr
