Job Summary:
The Manager of Patient Education oversees the development, production, and implementation of patient education content, leveraging technology across the entire continuum of care for Rush University Medical Center and, as appropriate, the Rush University System for Health. Builds organizational awareness of the consequences of limited health literacy, including the financial implications of limited health literacy and the health literacy interventions designed to address it. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.
Job Responsibilities:
* Manages and implements new and innovative patient education and health literacy initiatives across the Rush system.
* Drives digital patient education integration with Epic, MyChart, mobile devices, My Rush app, website, and TV systems.
* Ensures compliance with Rush policies and procedures, conformity to governmental, regulatory, accreditation, and meaningful use requirements. Corrects identified deficiencies in a timely, sustainable manner.
* Manages investigations to determine if applicable Safety Events or complaints are a person or system issue related.
* Manages the development of policies and procedures that reflect evidence-based health literacy principles.
* Collaborates with Accreditation & Regulatory, Patient Experience, Performance Improvement, Patient Safety, & Infection Control to create continuity of patient educational content.
* Collaborates with Nursing, Interpreter Services, Marketing & Communications, Information Services, and Risk Management to achieve identified goals across the Rush system.
* Identifies barriers to successful achievement of goals and leads efforts to effect needed change.
* Defines departmental goals and establishes individual performance measures for direct reports.
* Prepares and manages the operational budget, analyzes monthly budget variances, negotiates and manages vendor contracts for services and supplies.
* Oversees print and digital patient education material development and dissemination across the Rush System for Health
* Develops innovative initiatives to enhance internal efficiency and achieve measurable and sustainable results.
* Mentors and advises students on specific patient education and health literacy projects.
* Continuously invests in personal and professional growth, education, and development and remains current on all matters relating to high-quality job performance at Rush
Required Job Qualifications:
* Master's degree in a health-related field
* 5 years of experience in health care and/or health education
* Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat Pro and Microsoft Office
* Some familiarity with medical taxonomies and codes (ICD-10)
* Independent, self-motivated, and assertive
* Excellent organizational skills and proven ability to plan and manage multiple projects in efficient and cost-effective ways
* Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with individuals at all levels in the organization
* Leadership skills with a broad vision of the future of patient education & health literacy across the Rush system
* Exceptionally strong editing and communications skills
* Experience delivering educational content using multiple modalities (online, print, digital, video)
* Experience with design and typesetting, and print production
Preferred Job Qualifications:
* Clinical chart review and data abstraction experience (Epic experience preferred)
