Job Description:

AAA is hiring for a Public Affairs Manager to join our team! This position is responsible for working with the Director on geographic strategy and tactics that advance and protect the organization, including key business line support and traffic safety advocacy. The Public Affairs Manager promotes AAA's voice and messaging and policy positions with the media, various publics (stakeholders), and government agencies, such that primary areas of work include media relations, government relations and community relations, including traffic safety activities.

What You'll Do:

* Plan and execute strategic public and government affairs activities that support and promote organizational strategic goals and objectives and protect business interests.

* Represent the organization as a public voice and spokesperson with media, community, government agencies, business groups and other transportation stakeholders to influence policies, positions and organizational objectives.

* Identify, develop, and manage external partnerships with governmental, educational and business groups and actively participates in key task forces, workgroups and traffic safety events, etc. that strengthen AAA's ability to influence and advocate on behalf of the organization, mission, and Members.

* Create and disseminate information (e.g., media releases, fact sheets, articles, social media content, etc.) to promote the organization through multiple public channels and ensures messages are aligned with corporate policies and reflect the highest level of professionalism in content and presentation.

* Manage, organize, and lead in media and community events. Deliver testimony and prepare testimony, speeches, and correspondence for self and others who may represent the organization in public and government relations and community initiatives.

* Work with enterprise public affairs managers to execute strategies for media and community engagement opportunities to promote business lines, traffic safety activities, special projects and events and creative content and messaging.

* Maintain local relationships with business lines, as appropriate, to aid execution of support strategies.

* Oversee and coordinate the work of external consultants/lobbyists, as appropriate.

* Coordinate with Business Ops Team on research, analytics and databases of media clippings, media outlets, social media channels, legislators, and partner organizations in their local markets, as appropriate, to understand and maximize return on investment of media opportunities.

* May be responsible for one or more specified projects or initiatives on behalf of the broader Public Affairs team.

* Work with Director to plan, recommend and monitor expenses.

* Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree in communications, government affairs, journalism, public relations, or related fields of study; graduate work, APR (Accreditation in Public Relations by the Public Relations Society of America), or completion of approved specialized training/certificate program(s) preferred.

* 7+ years' experience in a public and government relations environment/role involving safety education, public speaking and writing; significant specific media (print, radio and television) and government relations experience preferred.

* Strong critical thinking, problem solving, strategic planning, project management, event planning, and analyzing expenditures skills.

* Ability to interact well with management, government agencies and media.

* Ability to effectively identify interests and preferences of stakeholders in support of AAA mission and organizational strategic goals and objectives.

* Proven ability to propose innovative solutions to increase efficiency and impact of public and government affairs activities.

* Excellent oral and written communication skills.

* Ability to work autonomously, speak in public and interact with various levels of individuals, including government officials.

* Creative talents in order to develop new, innovative promotional tactics.

* Social Media (Twitter, Facebook, etc.) skills.

* Familiarity with online advocacy platforms.

* Specific knowledge of relevant issues and legislation concerning traffic safety, transportation, and travel.

* Demonstrated skills in managing a public relations/government relations campaign involving media, lobbying/legislative efforts.

* Extensive PC skills particularly with word processing, PowerPoint and graphic design programs.

* Valid driver's license.
