Responsibilities:
This role leads the quality food safety excellence function for the site and serves as a technical resource for continuous improvement in the management of quality, food safety and regulatory compliance risk at the plant level. The role also serves as a part of the plant leadership team accountable for supporting the plants goals and objectives in keeping with BEF values and culture.
The quality food safety excellence function supports the business through four core activity pillars- conducting verification, validating the controls for quality and food safety, and substantiating regulatory compliance of products and programs, providing risk assessment as part of change and non-compliance management, and helping build organizational capability and culture. The role reports into the Director of quality in manufacturing & supply chain is responsible for managing the plant QFSE team, managing the food safety and quality assurance programs at the plant and serving as a liaison between the plant and corporate teams, regulators, and auditors.
- Manages various verification activities conducted by the plant QFSE team-developing standard work instructions, ensuring competence, scheduling, tracking and reporting on KPIs for implementation.
- Develops, updates, and manages implementation of the plant quality assurance and Food safety programs in compliance to corporate standards and requirements including - The manuals, records, practices, systems, and technical capabilities.
- Reports on regulatory metrics for plant performance and escalates non-conformances, changes, and resource needs to leadership. Develops potential solutions, tracks and ensures completion of all assigned investigative, corrective and preventive actions.
- Investigates non-conformances (including customer & consumer complaints), develops, implements, and communicates corrective and preventive actions.
- Participates in regulatory, customer, and internal audits, and develops and completes actions in response to any findings from these audits.
- Serves as plant representative with local food regulatory authorities.
- Works with corporate QFSE & HR teams to Develop training content on Quality and Food safety topics. Manages training delivered by plant QFSE team.
- Works with plant leaders to develop standard work instructions for operational, monitoring, verification and validation activities that impact quality, Food safety and regulatory compliance.
- Identifies training opportunities and other resource needs to continuously improve plant capability and culture with respect to Quality, Food Safety and compliance.
- Supports the material control program by identifying non-conforming material to be placed on hold, investigating root cause, recording rationale for, authorizing and verifying disposition.
- Lead the QFSE team managing their activities, interactions, capabilities and development in a way to fosters teamwork, supports plants objectives & goals and demonstrates BEF values.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Food Science, food safety or related field
- HACCP certification and meet the requirements for PCQI
- Comprehensive knowledge of GFSI standards and food quality and safety regulations
- Minimum of 10 years experience in food manufacturing business, preferably in the Quality Assurance or Production environment. Minimum of 3 years in a Quality related supervisory role. Must have working knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, quality systems, and experience working with and leading team in a manufacturing environment. Must possess understanding of FDA/USDA and local regulatory requirements.
