In PSLD, as within all of Caterpillar, our priority is our customers and helping them build a better world. We touch nearly every element of the services value stream from procurement to design and manufacturing to distribution. PSLD is responsible for Aftermarket Parts Distribution of Cat Parts, Integrated Logistics, segment Procurement and the design and manufacture of Wear Components (Undercarriage and GET) and Maintenance Components (Seals, Tubes & Hardware, Hose & Couplings, Fluids and Filters). As the Manager, Quality you will be responsible for ensuring the facilities product meets both Caterpillar's and external customers specifications.Additional Information:

What You Will Do:
  • Manages all facility functions and reports directly to the Senior Manager, Manufacturing Operations.
  • Manages a quality organization consisting of approximately three (3) management/support employees and nine (9) quality specialist supporting all production on all shifts (not directly managing).
  • Responsible for training, motivating, and development of employees.
  • Drives improvement in internal scrap rates, stop capability and customer defect rates.
  • Provides leadership in quality functions including IQA, CMMs, MRB gages and built-in quality checklists.
  • Responsible for overseeing execution of facility quality programs including ISO and CQMS.
  • Acts as the facility quality contact and support for all internal and external (including OEM) customers.
  • Responsible for planning, execution, and implementation of all quality related capital investment.
  • Work with suppliers to improve quality levels of products delivered to the facility.
  • Will engage with facility management and extended to Product group (Design, Test and Commercial).
  • Drives root cause analysis and resolution on all forms of loss, i.e., Safety, Quality, Production.
  • Champions lean culture and rolls out lean initiatives/tools for functional area.
  • Other duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time-to-time.

    • Interprets results of quantitative and statistical tools and explains results to others.
    • Communicates key benefits of a quality management process.
    • Conducts and directs quality reviews.
    • Develops expertise in quality assurance tools, techniques, and standards.
    • Develops quality assurance processes based on Six Sigma, ISO 9000 or Baldrige principles.
    • Develops programs for motivating employees to meet or exceed quality goals.
  • Collaborating: Knowledge of collaborative techniques; ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.
    • Demonstrates experience engendering collaborative processes that lead to problem solving and the achievement of business goals.
    • Establishes shared goals to foster collaboration.
    • Ensures that everyone can access the same data and provide input into how business is conducted.
    • Redesigns physical areas to allow for collaboration and private time.

    • Documents the key steps of a unit-specific risk management process and associated procedures.
    • Explains and analyzes quality indicators and metrics relevant to own unit or function.
    • Highlights Quality Risk Management issues throughout the product life cycle.
    • Participates in a crisis management team to address quality issues.
    • Understands overall business objectives to effectively mitigate risks associated with quality.
  • Lean Manufacturing: Knowledge of the philosophy, principles and implementation approaches of lean manufacturing; ability to integrate and implement lean manufacturing philosophy into existing production and management processes.
    • Cites examples of benefits and risks associated with implementing lean principles.
    • Describes basic tools for observing existing processes and identifying waste.
    • Cites industry or company examples of successful and unsuccessful lean implementations.
    • Identifies key lean principles and highlights of the lean manufacturing process.
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Knowledge of the concepts, principles and techniques of root cause analysis (RCA); ability to use a structured approach to identify the causes of undesirable consequences in a manufacturing environment and the changes needed to prevent recurrences.
    • Investigates a broad range of problems, determines causes, and finds resolutions.
    • Recommends candidates for root cause analysis in spite of chaotic organizational conditions.
    • Develops corrective action based on RCA results.
    • Uses RCA techniques such as Re-enactment, Comparative Re-enactment, Re-construction.
    • Guides others to recognize repeat situations even when they are distributed over time or happen to different people.
    • Works with a variety of RCA approaches such as safety-based, production-based, process-based, failure-based, and systems-based.
What Will Set You Apart (Preferred Qualifications):
  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Technical understanding of the manufacturing and quality processes.
  • Three (3) plus years of progressively responsible Quality, Manufacturing Engineering and Operations experience.
  • Lean and/or 6 Sigma Black Belt Certification/Experience.
  • Two (2) plus years of relevant supervisory/management experience.
  • Previous foundry experience.
  • Previous experience in Precision Seal's Manufacturing.
