The Advisor Services Technology team is responsible for managing the entirety of our digital products designed specifically for to our Institutional and Independent Advisor clients. AS Web Trading provides the full suite of online brokerage services to Schwab Financial Advisors to facilitate trading activities for their independent clients. The SAC Web Trading team is comprised of multiple scrum teams all working collaboratively to provide the best experience to advisor firms. We are looking for a Staff Engineer of Software Development to work in our dynamic and collegiate team.
What you are good at
Collaborate with AST team members in designing and developing technical solutions that meet business needs with respect to functionality, performance, scalability, and reliability. The ideal candidate will have a strong technology affinity and experience, as well as attention to detail:
- Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable front end and back-end code.
- Ensure the best possible performance, quality, and responsiveness of the applications.
- Identify bottlenecks and bugs, and devise solutions to these problems.
- Collaborate with the team to design, develop, unit test, and support new features.
- Proactively identify product/system enhancements which may improve tool appeal, process flow, and overall functionality and performance.
- Lead development of maintenance and enhancement work items, including performance tuning, testing, refactoring, usability, and automation.
- Champion/ensure adherence to coding, compliance, & security standards (including documenting functionality/recovery solutions).
What you have

Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of full stack application development experience.
- Working experience with Schwab processes and procedures
- Bachelor's degree from 4-year accredited degree granting college or university is preferred, or equivalent experience.
- Proven experience developing and implementing applications, particularly web-enabled applications using:
- Front End Technologies/Concepts: Angular and/or AngularJS, HTML5, CSS/SCSS, ASP.NET web forms, MVC, JSON/XML, Sync/Async services
- Back End Technologies/Concepts: C#, ASP.NET, SOAP and RESTful API design
- Database Technologies/Concepts: Relational (SQL/Oracle) and Document Based (No-SQL/MongoDB) Architectures
- Environment: Distributed Monolithic and Cloud Based Microservices (Private Cloud/Pivotal Cloud Foundry is strongly differentiating)
- Passion for enterprise-level agile development.
- Solid understanding in web application environments and development tools, event-driven application development, session state management, web configuration and deployment strategies, security, and performance tuning, and debugging methodologies.
- Comfortable with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) concepts, unit testing principles and implementations, API test automation techniques as well as automated deployment pipeline tools.
- Experience with Atlassian tool suite is strongly preferred: JIRA, Confluence, GitHub, Bamboo
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective time management. Must be able to prioritize and multi-task effectively.
- Have a passion for problem solving, the ability to quickly learn new concepts, and must be able to interact with all levels of technical and business teams.
- Be a team player, self-motivated and able to work collaboratively across organizations and geographic locations.
- Proficient understanding of code versioning tool.
Pluses
- Strong trading domain knowledge in different security types, order placement, block trades, firm level aggregate balances & positions, allocations, interpreting order statuses, & rebalancing.
- Experienced in implementing real time trading applications.
