Salary: $85,000.00 Annually Location : 1 Bungtown Road, Cold Spring Harbor- Main Campus Job Type: Full Time Job Number: 01215 Process Level: Procurement Department: Procurement Opening Date: 09/17/2024 Position Description Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, a world-renowned scientific research organization located on the North Shore of Long Island, is seeking a talented individual to assist in the implementation of Workday into our Procurement and Logistics. The ideal candidate will have prior experience with implementing the Workday strategic sourcing and inventory SKU's and possess a strong background in project management, particularly in sourcing systems implementation. The successful candidate will demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of sourcing and logistics processes and functions, along with excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams. The Manager, Strategic Sourcing is responsible for leading, managing, and optimizing procurement projects from initiation through completion. This role involves coordinating with cross-functional teams, managing timelines, budgets, and resources, and ensuring that procurement initiatives align with organizational objectives and procurement policies. Position Responsibilities
  • Project Management:
    • Lead and manage procurement projects, including sourcing, contract negotiations, supplier management, and implementation.
    • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, schedules, and budgets.
    • Coordinate project activities, set priorities, and ensure timely delivery of project milestones.
  • Procurement Strategy:
    • Develop procurement strategies for assigned projects, ensuring alignment with overall procurement goals and objectives.
    • Analyze market trends and supplier capabilities to identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
  • Supplier Management:
    • Identify and evaluate potential suppliers, conduct supplier assessments, and manage supplier selection processes.
    • Negotiate contracts and terms with suppliers, ensuring favorable terms and compliance with company policies.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including engineering, finance, and legal teams, to define project requirements and ensure alignment with business needs.
    • Communicate project status, risks, and issues to stakeholders and management.
  • Risk Management:
    • Identify potential risks in procurement projects and develop mitigation strategies.
    • Monitor and report on project risks, ensuring issues are resolved promptly.
  • Compliance and Reporting:
    • Ensure procurement projects comply with relevant laws, regulations, and company policies.
    • Prepare and present project reports, including performance metrics, budget status, and project outcomes.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Identify and implement best practices in procurement project management.
    • Lead initiatives to improve procurement processes, tools, and methodologies.
  • Position Requirements
    • Education:
      • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
      • Project Management Professional (PMP), certification or equivalent is preferred.
      • Change Management (e.g., Prosci) certification or equivalent is preferred
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in procurement, project management, or supply chain management.
    • Proven experience managing sourcing projects, with specific experience in implementing the strategic sourcing SKU of Workday.
  • Skills:
    • Strong project management skills, including planning, scheduling, and budgeting.
    • Advanced experience in all phases of procurement, fixed asset management and inventory control
    • Excellent negotiation and contract management skills.
    • Ability to analyze data and market trends to develop procurement strategies.
    • Persuasive communication and people skills for effective stakeholder management.
    • Proficiency in procurement and project management software tools (e.g., Workday, Infor/Lawson, Jaggaer, SAP Ariba, MS Project).
    • Establishment of key performance indicators (KPI), reporting and dashboard
  • Attributes:
    • Meticulous with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Initiative-taking and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a challenging environment.
  • Working Conditions
    • Work Environment:
      • Office setting with occasional travel to supplier sites or other company locations.
    • Physical Requirements:
      • Ability to use a computer and office equipment, and occasionally lift items up to 20 pounds.
