The Manager - Whole Child Services and Support manages the day-to-day operations of the office of Whole Child Services and Support. This office leads strategic direction, program implementation, and support services in three key areas:

  • creating safe, joyful, and welcoming learning environments that enable students and staff to be their best selves, do their best work, and to come together to build strong school communities;
  • nurturing healthy, connected, and supported students and adults who have the positive relationships, social and emotional supports and growth opportunities, and access to healthy options and activities that are required for holistic well-being and development; and
  • providing engaging and enriching learning experiences that motivate students to attend school consistently and that inspire them to pursue their own interests and passions.

Whole Child Services and Support includes the following offices: student wholeness, student conduct and attendance, home and hospital, athletics, and enrichment and extracurricular programming. Central to all of the work of this office is building and maintaining strong partnerships with students, staff, and families and working to identify, disrupt, and dismantle systems, structures, and practices that have intentionally created and continued to afford advantages to some groups while perpetuating racial inequities for others.

The Manager represents the Executive Director of Whole Child Services and Support in various settings and provides leadership and direction for special projects that have operational and organizational impact. The Manager provides direction and leadership within the district office, providing support to staff within the office of Whole Child Services and Support and serving as a liaison with other district departments to ensure a focus on high quality teaching and learning that aligns to the City Schools Strategic Priorities. The Manager ensures that systems and processes are in place to support efficient and effective functioning of the office, including, but not limited to intra- and inter-office communications, coordination of the Whole Child leadership team and units, personnel hiring and development, and budget development and management.

Essential Functions
  • Assists the Executive Director with the development, dissemination, implementation, and evaluation of Whole Child Services and Support initiatives.
  • Builds positive working relationships with other district offices, school-based staff, partner organizations, students, staff, and families, as needed, in order to support, coordinate, and communicate work related to Whole Child initiatives.
  • Provides leadership in the area of strategic budgeting and financial management to ensure effective planning, compliance with grant requirements, tracking of expenditures, on-time spending of funds, and regular review and reporting of the Whole Child office's financial data. Prepares and maintains complex financial records using Excel or comparable software required.
  • Collaborates with the Executive Director and Directors and Coordinators to plan regular leadership team meetings, retreats, learning sessions, and social gatherings for the Whole Child office.
  • Develops a strong knowledge of district policies, particularly those related to Whole Child Services and Supports, as well as relevant state and federal law. Advises on the interpretation and application of relevant laws and policies. Recommends and supports the revision or drafting of proposed district policies, as needed.
  • Leads or reviews and finalizes all presentations, memorandums, and other requests of the Board of School Commissioners.
  • Coordinates procurement for the Whole Child Services and Support, including supplemental materials strategy and review, contract recommendations, and written requests of the Board.
  • Supports director- and coordinator-level staff with effective project management.
  • Represents City Schools at various internal and external meetings and conferences, as requested by the Executive Director.
  • Manages strategic hiring process for the Office of Whole Child Services and Support; supports the school-based hiring of key district managed positions.
  • Coordinates special programs and initiatives related to the district's strategic priorities.
  • Provides support in the identification and preparation of federal, state, and private grant proposals to secure resources to support teaching and learning initiatives.
  • Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies and the professional standards.

  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field from an accredited college or university. Master's degree preferred.
  • Three years of K-12 experience in an urban setting.
  • Knowledge of current research and best practices in K-12 education.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent budgeting and financial management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in the use of technical computer applications including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Ability to facilitate positive communication and coordination of program activities with teachers, administrators, and staff.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data and make programmatic recommendations and/or decisions aligned to best practices and district priorities.
  • Ability to prepare and deliver effective presentations and written work products.
  • Ability to provide specific feedback on work products of various content and purpose.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, high pressure atmosphere in which there are multiple short- and long-term tasks.
  • Ability to think strategically and manage programs and partnerships.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including staff and partners; community and business agencies; and federal, state and local officials.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to make persuasive presentations.
  • A demonstrated interest in and experience related to the work of the Whole Child Services and Support office.

  • Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with school system employees and managers at all levels, as well as government agencies and community stakeholders.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize changing assignments, and organize busy workload, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure, while exercising excellent attention to detail.
