POSITION SUMMARY

The Web Press Lead Operator is responsible for the set up and operation of a Web Press with emphasis on safety, productivity, quality, and good housekeeping. Consistently demonstrate proficiency and understanding in the use of data collection systems, job ticket, and daily production schedule. Work in conjunction with other Press Operators and Helpers in the 2 person crew or 4 person crew in support of the manufacturing process. Manroland Operator works on a 4 Color Offset Web Press.

This is a Night Shift position with a 12% shift differential. Opportunities for overtime with a regular schedule of three 12-hour shifts 6 pm-6 am (36 hours/week) on either Front Half or Back Half of the week. Salary based on experience. Apply and let's talk.

PRIMARY DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Read, understand, and ensure the accurate execution of the entire work order of every job and including the successful resolution of any and all discrepancies.
  • Consistently demonstrate the ability to work with manufacturing management to achieve company goals including customer satisfaction and company profitability.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use of the data collection system and display consistency and accuracy in meeting data collection requirements specified in the quality documentation and by management.
  • Make ready according to production schedule, check color content of the job running, and notify manager/supervisor of issues, violations, or errors.
  • Demonstrate willingness to accept direction from supervisors, management and peers to improve quality and performance.
  • Ensure the press has all required resources including scheduled maintenance and supplies and that maintenance activities are thoroughly accomplished and documented; Maintain a list of all maintenance needed to ensure proper running of the press.
  • Ensure the correct information concerning press runs, paper consumption, and waste information entered into the computer.
  • Direct the work of the Second Press Operator, including training and support as needed.
  • Ensure the Second Press Operator/Press Helper properly and effectively completes duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to operation of the press and folder, cleaning and maintenance of equipment, and changing paper rolls.
  • With the assistance of the Second Press Operator/Press Helper, inspect for and ensures sample copies are of the highest quality, and that autocount printouts and computer entries are correct and accurate.
  • See that all running samples are pulled, inspected, and initialed.
  • Manage materials and supplies maximizing press efficiency & waste management
  • Check paper consumption throughout the run (running waste, slab waste and damaged rolls).
  • Work to keep the entire press area clean at all times, both during production runs and down time, using the resources of him/herself and others efficiently and ensure the job and equipment requirements are efficiently and expeditiously met.
  • Elevate unresolved or continuing problems to the APPROPRIATE CREW MEMBERS AND/OR shift Supervisor.
  • Perform these duties in a manner that protects the health and safety of all employees.
  • Successfully complete the departments training program.
  • Must be able to use a fork truck and/or clamp truck.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures, including but not limited to proper use of PPEs, safe ergonomic practices, and proper and safe handling of chemicals.
  • Maintain working knowledge, awareness, and compliance with ISO Procedures.
  • May require additional availability to work beyond normal schedule hours as workload demands.
  • Other duties as assigned, including working where directed, be it on varying presses or in other departments.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Excellent vision, including the ability to perceive color
  • Dexterity including ability to operate jacks safely
  • Ability to remain physically and mentally alert during 12-hour shift
  • Capable of repeated standing, walking, sitting, bending, and lifting skid bundles up to 60lbs for 8-12 hours at a time
  • Ability to work at a rapid pace
  • Ability to tolerate being exposed to loud noises and moving machinery (PPE provided)
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Prior experience in a printing environment required
  • Ability to safely operate a fork truck/clamp truck if needed (will train if needed)
