Provide engineering support for all 3D-printing and prototyping needs of US Conec to assist in the design and optimization of multi-fiber connector systems. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties as assigned): • Study and work to improve the accuracy and repeatability of our 3D-printers. • Study and work to improve effectiveness and efficiency of systems related to our in-house 3D-printing...Ben request, tracking, and delivery systems. • Meet with internal 3D-printing customers to understand our future needs for 3D-printing to help in planning for new printing materials and technologies. • Research and stay informed about new printing and prototyping technologies available in the market. • Research and stay current with vendors for sourcing 3D printing materials & supplies, as well as outsourced printed parts. • Research new, and assist with trialing, prototype/quick turn machining and molding vendors. • Serve as US Conec point-of-contact for quotes and orders with prototype/quick turn machining and molding vendors. • Create and maintain guidelines and best practices for designing parts optimized for 3D-printing. Model parts in CAD that are optimized for 3D-printing. • Utilize ultra-high-precision 3D printer(s) to create functional prototypes of precision-molded concept parts. • Assist in making decisions about 3D printer maintenance, repairs, and service plans. • Assist in tracking uptime & downtime of 3D printers. • Serve as backup for the Prototyping & CAD Technician to... receive print requests, build print jobs in appropriate printing software, submit jobs to printers, and post-process parts. • Produce or revise CAD models as requested by internal customers for parts to be prototyped by either in-house equipment or by outside sources. • Produce accurate CAD drawings as needed to support USConec's prototyping needs, including good dimensioning and tolerancing practices. • Other CAD, 3D Printing / Prototyping, and Drawing related tasks as assigned by the Drafting & Design Supervisor. EQUIPMENT USED: • PC computer with Autodesk Inventor, Microsoft Office & Outlook software and other programs designated by the Drafting & Design Supervisor or the R&D Manager. • Prototyping equipment including but not limited to 3D printers and printed part post-processing equipment. 3D printer software. • Measurement equipment including but not limited to toolmaker's microscope, high-precision digital indicators, micrometers, calipers and pin gauges. Requirements EDUCATION AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS: • Bachelor's degree in engineering field • Familiarity in 3D prototyping and printing preferred • Ability to work independently with minimum direction and supervision • Consistent ability to accomplish assigned and agreed upon objectives • Fundamental PC skills with standard MS Office software: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint • Knowledge of basic statistical techniques • Excellent interpersonal skills, as well as verbal and written communications skills
