Job Overview: The Manufacturing Engineer is a key member of the plant operations team, responsible for driving continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring equipment and tooling meet engineering and customer specifications, and maintaining production schedules through accurate time studies and routing updates. This role is vital to enhancing the efficiency, quality, and safety of manufacturing processes, contributing directly to the company's operational success. Key Responsibilities:
- Promote and facilitate safety initiatives throughout the facility.
- Program, edit, and validate CNC lathes and mills.
- Utilize MRP software (AS/400) for creating and maintaining production routings based on time studies.
- Use SolidWorks & PDM to create and modify models and drawings.
- Lead, manage, and contribute to various projects including design, development, cost savings, and continuous improvements.
- Collaborate with the Manufacturing Technician to develop and improve tooling, equipment, and fixtures.
- Act as a technical resource for manufacturing departments, providing expertise and support.
- Support company capital plans through the design and development of work cells, machinery, fixtures, and tooling.
- Review production orders and schedules to ensure products meet specifications and delivery deadlines.
- Resolve operational, manufacturing, and maintenance issues to minimize costs and avoid delays.
- Inspect machines and equipment for optimal performance and utilization.
- Oversee daily activities of the Manufacturing Engineering Department.
- Develop and implement Work Cells, One Piece Flow Manufacturing, Lean Manufacturing Principles, and SMED.
- Maintain and update plant layout.
- Collaborate with the maintenance team to promptly address safety-related issues.
- Prepare capital appropriations and provide tooling quotes for new or modified products.
- Perform cost analysis to support make vs. buy decisions.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Requirements Include: Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering preferred.
- Associate degree with 3+ years of experience, or 7+ years of experience in the manufacturing engineering field in lieu of formal education.
Experience:
- Proven experience in CNC machining, programming, and fixture design.
- Experience with 5-axis machining and automation is strongly preferred.
- Experience with ERP and MRP software (AS/400 preferred).
- Knowledge of non-destructive inspection techniques and basic statistics.
Skills:
- Proficiency in Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
- Ability to apply concepts from algebra, geometry, trigonometry, physics, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, safety rules, and procedure manuals.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to write reports and present information to customers and employees.
Certifications:
- Lean Manufacturing certification preferred.
Knowledge:
- Familiarity with Root Cause and Preventive Action methods.
- Solid understanding of manufacturing engineering principles and safety standards.
