GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY: As the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for the planning, introduction, implementation and improvement of products, processes, and procedures into the manufacturing system to ensure the attainment of desired objectives for the least cost, and to recommend to management developments in manufacturing that will enhance the profitability or competitive position of the company. Implements best practices and policies that sustain effective and efficient manufacturing processes.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: - Plan and coordinate the introduction of new products, parts and manufactured processes including routings, processes and methods.Develop, evaluate and improve manufacturing methods.
- Manage and provide guidance to the Manufacturing Engineers for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these employees and their performance.
- Provide leadership and direction to the Manufacturing Engineering Team; develops positive team dynamics to ensure high performance.
- Review and give initial approval of equipment specifications, performance requirements, cost analysis, and proposal for integrating machinery and equipment into the manufacturing process.
- Determine the processes, identifies the materials and supplies to be used, and designs and builds appropriate fixtures necessary for efficient and cost effective manufacturing.
- Ensure new parts and optimization projects are completed by the required deadline, at reasonable cost, and with a robust process.
- Integrate work with Production, Quality, Purchasing, and Scheduling Departments to ensure a smooth flow of quality products through the factory.
- Establish bills of material, manufacturing routings, machine burdens, and new work centers.
- Create work instructions for new products to be manufactured.
- Design tools and machines used to manufacture products.
- Review production program equipment, hardware, and tooling; makes recommendations for repairs or replacement.
- Oversee the development of new processes, methods, and production controls.
- Installs new equipment and ensures that it operates correctly; trains others to operate new machinery.
- Maintain knowledge of new and developing manufacturing technology, equipment, and applications; applies this knowledge to recommend and implement new technology and processes.
- Process internal engineering change orders (ECOs), processes and incorporates the changes, and ensures changes become effective.
- Study and record time, motion, methods and speed involved in performance of production and other worker operations to establish standard production rates and to improve efficiencies. Institutes changes in the production processes and/or recommends adjustments to product pricing.
- Perform engineering activities in compliance with established company and manufacturing standards, engineering principles, customer requirements, and related specifications.
- Confer with customers and engineering staff concerning product design and tooling to insure efficient production methods.
- Confer with vendors to determine part specifications and recommend the purchase of equipment and materials used in manufacturing and production.
- Estimate production times, staffing requirements, and related costs for management decisions.
- Confer with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes. Other duties may be assigned.
- Provide floor support for the assigned functional area.
- Work with Product Engineering on single input multiple output engineering functions.
- Approve all tooling, either manufactured or purchased, used in the assigned functional area.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE: - 5-7 years of experience in fabrication, welding and assembly of construction and agricultural equipment is preferred.
- 5-7 years of progressive management level experience in Manufacturing Engineering, Plant Engineering, and Shop Supervision required.
- Requires knowledge of LEAN manufacturing principles.
EXPERTISE: - Demonstrates a professional and positive attitude as well as a passion for continuous improvement.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess problems or issues with manufacturing equipment.Excellent mechanical aptitude, communication and computer skills are required. Must be able to gather, manipulate and analyze data.
- Extensive knowledge of production principles and techniques.
- Proficient with computer-aided drafting (CAD) software.
- Experience in managing projects from proposal through implementation and evaluation
- Proficient in mechanical assembly with preferred experience in assembly lines
- Able to drive and lead change
EDUCATION: - Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Manufacturing required.
- Attend special courses or seminars and read current articles and books to keep well informed in new manufacturing developments.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: - Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at times.
INTERNAL & EXTERNAL CONNECTIONS: - This position will interact with all departments, other sites and suppliers.
LOCALIZATION AND TRAVEL EXPECTED: - This position is located in Madison, SD.
- Both domestic and global travel up to 10% may be required.
