This role supports Helmer Scientific, part of Trane Technologies Life Sciences Portfolio. Helmer Scientific designs, integrates, manufactures, markets, and distributes specialized medical and laboratory equipment to clinical and life science customers in over 125 countries, as well as provide after-market service and support.
This Manufacturing Mechanical Engineer develops, sustains, and improves manufacturing processes and systems focused on exceeding quality, cost, and schedule requirements throughout production. In this role, you will coordinate, organize, and supervise production process methods and engineering activities that facilitate production including sustaining engineering and continuous improvement activities. This individual would be considered a specialist on released equipment and processes and work independently on capital equipment justification, acquisition, implementation, and validation throughout the facility while leading cross-functional teams on assigned projects focused on achieving strategic goals and business metrics.

What you will do:
- Promotes Helmer values as demonstrated in personal productivity and quality of work, management of internal/external relationships, actively seeking out and participating in Continuous Improvement practices, and willingness to engage and support team initiatives.
- Possess the ability to work independently and collaboratively on complex business projects.
- Project leadership includes developing project plans, manufacturing process concepts, and detailed process designs to support safety, quality, and productivity goals.
- Develop, propose, and lead projects involving safety, quality, and productivity improvements within the manufacturing operation.
- Assumes responsibility for Capital planning, CER creations and Approvals, Capital Project Timing and Implementation, Capital Spending and Budgeting/ Assumes responsibility for Plant VA/VE Savings
- Ensures all equipment meets company and OSHA compliant safety regulations and policies.
- Evaluate and implement innovative, cost effective, safe, manufacturing processes and techniques, which will improve the effectiveness of the manufacturing operations and business systems.
- Drives engineering principles and discipline through mentoring, training and project reviews including: PFMEA, Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Dynamic Control Plans (DCP), Lean Tools, Standard work creation, time study observation, and line/facility layout.
- Develop manufacturing planning, initial tooling requirements and costs, capability requirements, control plans, and assessments, which facilitate the definition and specification of the manufacturing processes.
- Develop and implement manufacturing flows, workstation layouts and organization, and station controls, which optimize value added operations, operating costs, and product / process quality.
- Develops and improves manufacturing standards including machine capability, process maps, setups, quality controls, tooling and fixture records, routings, machine times, and cycle times
- Provide technical expertise and leadership for the timely resolution of manufacturing process and product design issues.
- Lead and participate on continuous improvement teams utilizing Lean Manufacturing tools and methodology to improve standard work of production processes from order initiation to ship.
- Identify root cause solutions through use of standardized problem-solving techniques to drive daily improvements in the factory.
- Support implementation of actions in response to safety incidents and near miss.
- Provide guidance to support maintenance in troubleshooting/repairing fabrication and operation equipment as required.
- Create and maintain Bill of Materials, routings, and labor requirements.
- Provide guidance to support Maintenance and facilities with building upgrades/repairs as needed.
- Other duties/responsibilities as assigned.
What you will bring:
- 3+ years related engineering experience in manufacturing experience required.
- Bachelors in Manufacturing Engineering or closely related discipline required
- Experience justifying, implementing, and validating capital equipment
- Experience leading cross-functional teams and planning and executing project timelines
- Experience with a variety of industrial controls and applications is preferred.
- Experience with reading & reviewing equipment drawings, equipment electrical system diagrams, and equipment mechanical layout diagrams.
- Understanding of mechanical systems in an industrial application is preferred.
Certifications / Licenses:
- Formal lean manufacturing training preferred.
- PMP or equivalent project management certification a plus
- Six Sigma, RedX or equivalent problem-solving certification a plus.
Computer Systems / Software:
- Familiar with (or strong desire to learn and master) Microsoft Office applications.
- Autodesk CAD/Inventor experience required.
- SQL database development and Power BI dashboard development a plus.
Key Competencies:
- Proficient knowledge of lean, automation, business systems, quality and product design as they relate to design for manufacturing principles and improving productivity.
- Proficient knowledge of validation metrics and systems related to quality, cost, rate, and sustainability.
- Demonstrated ability to execute simultaneous complex projects
- Knowledge of life cycle cost analysis, dimensional capability analysis, and capacity analysis.
- Knowledge of methods, accepted practices, considerations and regulatory requirements associated with safety and protection of workers, environment and site.
- Fosters an environment of trust and open communication from senior leadership to entry level operators.
- Ability to promote collaboration and teamwork inside/outside the department to reach common goals; open to and solicits diverse views and opinions from others; breaks down barriers to build consensus.
- Ability to actively partner with team members to provide them with pertinent information, techniques, instruction, feedback and encouragement to maximize their success on the job.
- Strong communication skills directed towards training operations staff and actively participating in process conceptualization discussion, as well as justifying ideas with other organization functions.
Compensation:
$90,000 - $110,000
